I Have Entered The World Of Full Frame!

Recently bought myself a lovely (second hand) Canon 6D, already had the 24-105 L lens and the two seem to be working lovely together. Only had one day to play around but have found it to be a fun challenge. Love the width I now have and the depth of field is amazing but is there anything I should really be aware of in regards to the differences between full and crop frame?

I can't imagine that your work could be any more beautiful full frame or not!

What camera were you using prior to that? I'd love to have the 24 to 105L with my 60D.

depth of focus will be much different than a cropped frame. what you could get away with then you won't now. and of course you lose the zoom of the lens. what was 450mm is now 300mm. but you can use a wide lens. AND - you have to be very careful that your lens is compatible. you can't use cropped frame lenses with a full frame, they stick into the camera too much and get in the way of the mirror. so your lens choices have to be looked at very carefully or you could damage the camera.

I looked at a 6D yesterday, but I need better glass first.

@Jessica thank you so much!
@Joseph - I had the 60D and I would highly recommend the lens, expensive but worth it, the difference in clarity is astonishing

I have the 6D and the 24-105. My first big boy camera. Less depth of field. More low light capability. Lot of camera to lug around. I find the 35mm to be a nice match to the camera for weight and much sharper than the zoom.

Watch the 24-105 lens at the furthest zoom - mushy.

Thanks all, very good advise, the amount I spent I can't afford any damage or to ever go back from full frame

First thing I noticed was the weight, felt nice and solid and from the few shots I have took so far, the noise levels at lower light are so much less than I am used to!

I bought the 6D with the 24-105L last summer and I LOVE it! I used it continually on the road for nearly 12 weeks in all sorts of lighting and weather. Huge improvement in image quality. Couldn't be more pleased.

Usually it's a one way trip. I stuck with FF straight after film purely because I didn't want to be messing about with lens focal length changes. Then again there weren't any lenses designed specifically for crop sensors around back then. Bigger viewfinder, wider field of view, lower noise. Unless you're a nature or sports photographer what's not to like? There is the additional weight I suppose...

Nice gallery btw.

The 6D with the wide lens feels like a feather compared to the 7D Mark II (crop sensor) with the long lens on.

As long as you buy EF lenses they will work with full or crop frame sensors. I bought them for my Rebel XT before the 5D mark II. I save my bucks and buy L lenses. Love my 24-105. It's my baby. My want list now includes a 70-200 2.8 L. If anyone has barrel creep on your 24-105. I can tell you how to fix it. Anyone buy with the "Bill Me Later" program offered by many sellers? I love it for camera equipment.

Chris,

I like your work. You are still early on here as am I. Our prices are in line. Just my opinion. Very similar price structures.

The little I know about cameras nice going with the full frame. Have fun.

Chris, congratulations on your new FF, and congratulations on your brilliant photography. Your photos are very powerful, yet have a certain magical, dreamy quality to them. Very inspirational.

Intresting that you all love your 24-105 Canon... I bought it some years ago because of the reviews I read - but it turned out to be not a jota better in sharpness than the kit-lenses I already head. Mounted on a 7D.

I'm not a fan of the 24-105 L. I wonder if I got a bad version of it.

Yep...you won't go back. Sensor size is a BIG deal.....at least to me, probably second only to glass.

Edward, I am afraid you got a "normal" version of the lens...
