Accepted Into A Showing

I have been accepted into a show/display in a local store. The images that are on display will be used as part of the showroom display and will be available for purchase at that location. I'm fairly excited about this.

All I have to do is pick the images and size to use. I've been told that 48" is acceptable which would probably be good for a big showroom, but would limit the number of people who would have the space to hang it.

When I do art shows most of the work I sell are 24x36 and larger.

I made a mistake of going too small at the show I was in last year. Some guy had three 4 foot nudes while I displayed four 11 x 14s. Use the opportunity as advertising and get noticed.

This is a home furnishings store. I haven't been there, but I've been told by the organizer that they set up their displays like rooms. It looks like I will be the only photographer participating. If something sells, the venue takes 20%. This could be a 3-6 months showing.

This is the first time I've been asked/accepted to participate in a showing so I feel a bit excited and lost at the same time.

Gale,

Get a jump on the other artists! Find the designer of your "room" and get a color pallette and then choose images that match! If the designer seems helpful, ask if you can submit 10 images and ask for some direction and you're golden! If the designer is using a strong color pallette, then using the wrong images will look terrible,

The art needs to be proportionate to the furniture.
Think sofa sized prints

Rich: Thanks. That is a good idea. I have contacted the even coordinator to see if I can get more information. I am going to try to get out there either today or tomorrow after work.

Marlene: That is what I am struggling with. What size print do I provide? I am hoping to hear back from the coordinator. I could go as large as 72" on a couple of mine, but that would limit the number of people who would have space for it.

If it's running for up to 6 months, then probably a "summer" room. If you do go big, use the images that you like, just in case they don't sell. And large images "convey" a professional ability by the artist. I've got a 26" x 40" print over one couch and it looks good. It's a canvas, not framed. So that's not a bad size. I have another canvas over another couch, that's 40"x 60" that I made for s special show, that never sold! I wouldn't go larger, unless the designer is buying............

Rich: I was asked to provide 2 48x18 images as well as up to 4 16x20 images. I checked out the display space today. It is bigger than I expected and scattered throughout the store. It sounds like my stuff will be grouped together if I have a coherent theme. I will have 6 pieces there, assuming that there isn't an issue with the prints. Five will be shipping related. The 6th is unrelated to shipping or the Lakes and is an oddball.
