Not Crazy About The Huge Image Previews

I just noticed today the preview images in my galleries have enlarged considerably. I'm not sure I care for this change. It means a lot fewer images per screen, a lot more scrolling to see everything which may cause viewers to not go as far, and slower page load times which may cause viewers to get impatient and just leave. It also means less need for a viewer to click the image, which means fewer view counts .... which could negatively impact my search ranking?
I see more disadvantages than advantages here.

But your largest gallery is only 51 images, that's 2 pages.

If it only takes 2 clicks to see all your stuff, with nice BIG thumbnails, that's great! You get about 10 seconds* with the average visitor. This new method seems optimal for getting the maximum potential out of those 10 seconds. I love it this way.

* or however many seconds that may be.

From what I have been able to tell, view counts do not affect search rankings. Correct me if I'm wrong, however.

As for the enlarged sizes, I personally prefer it. I have many wide panoramic images in my gallery, which simply never looked good as squares. Also, I believe there are still the same number of images on each page.

I think she is referring to something larger that what you all are seeing. Since the changes started, one gallery images take up the whole screen. I know it is just growing site pains, as it is finally working proper on my AW page and it had the same problem before. The images page is still having issues.

Works great for Panoramic's!

No matter what happens, someone will complain.

Jennifer "one gallery images take up the whole screen" seems to be your problem alone with Dial-up connection. Christa is referring to the images sizes.

Yes, Jennifer, that's what I'm seeing. My images are so large only 1 or 2 fit per row so I can only see 2-4 images on my entire screen. I'm logged into pixels.com. Maybe others aren't seeing this on FAA.

Crista what device are you seeing this on? There are 3 images per row in images

if on a mobile you could be seeing ths but otherwise use the CTRL+mouse wheel to shrink your page. it sounds like your resolution may be too small

My gallery images are huge also don't know if I like it or not, overall the new look on the site is great. Just checked again and it's back right.

I am seeing 4 or 5 across on my computer...not different than I remember recently. Perhaps they have reverted back again?

Could your browser zoom be zoomed in our out too much? Try Ctrl Zero if you use FireFox. That resets page zoom to the default value.

It isn't my settings. every page works normal exept FAA, which leads me to assume, it is just the iternal changes happening. This was happening on AW too, but now the gallery and its images are showing proper there. But still nothing on the images pages. Been blank on both sites for over a week. I'm patient.... I believe everything will work itself out in time.

Jennifer use a different browser or update the one you have

I'm on a regular PC, using Firefox as my browser, as I have for ages. My screen res is 1920x1080, plenty high enough. I've done Ctrl-0. It's fine. The rest of the page looks fine too. Nothing else around the images looks too big/small. Just the images. And I just noticed the images actually look OK when I go to the Images tab. There I get 4-5 images across. It's when I go to one of my Galleries that I get only 1 or 2 much larger images. This just started for me today. All was fine yesterday.

Years ago, a website owner commented that he received many more sales by having larger type on his web pages. He did not know why. As he said, "It just works." Last year, Yahoo enlarged its thumbnail images on Flickr. Many complained, but Yahoo has stayed with this new format.

Hopefully the FAA owners are analyzing to see if larger previews yield more sales.

Crista, try changing the order of your images so that images with the same ratio are not always side by side.

Larger is better for print and thumbnails.

The reason is easy to see. Pun intended. Older folks with wallets like
larger print and pictures.

Plus now kids on cellphones need a little larger print and images as well. Other
wise mobile devices shrink things too small.

Size does matter after all.

Agree with Glenn. It helps a lot with panoramics

I'd imagine some people wouldn't like the change. Me, I like it because I think it makes the paintings pop out better.

I have 3 to 4 across the size I am viewing in, but ctrl +/- does change the way they appear. One thing I have noticed though is that the proportions of one image on a line of images will change the apparent size of the others on the row. So a 5000square image on one line will look much larger than if it was on another line next to a panoramic image.

I guess it was a temporary glitch. It appears to have resolved itself now.
