Using "reply" To Reply To Comments Versus Replying By Posting A New Comment.

I noticed a while back that a ton of people have stopped using the "reply" option when someone makes a comment on their page. Instead they are now replying by posting a new comment. I was told that this is being done because of the way that FAA "ranks" images. The more comments, likes, favorites, etc. the higher up you will be in the rankings of artists. Can anyone tell me if this is correct?

I doubt it makes any difference. If comments really made that much difference then we'd all write 50 comments on our own work wouldn't we?

Benanne,
It is my understanding that are own comments, those "thank you" notices for example are not counted in the "total" comment calculations and make no difference at all.
I personally don't think buyers read too many of the comments other artists make anyway... I think if they like the image, they will buy.

"reply" option ...........Lovely and a very warm sentiment. :)

I received a blanket message from a group administrator (addressed to the entire group) earlier today concerning the same topic. I'm guessing perhaps something was sent from the upper echelon to all group admins concerning how "replying" is being done.

Greg, I got that same email and when I replied back I was told that it does not help you in any way. So I'm trying to figure out why so many people are doing it.......????

Hi Benanne, when in your "activity" feed it is easier to post a new comment, replying requires and extra click :-) I think we all just get busy and lazy :-)

A persons own comments don't count and now with the 50 comment limit people would be wise to reply instead.

I think it looks neater to reply to a comment, so typically that is how I do it. I do not like "Congratulations, your photograph was just featured in my group" type posts and deleted a few I got just yesterday.

Does anyone read the replies to comments? On other sites the person would be notified of a reply. Not here.

Probably not, Jessica, unless they follow their Activity thread religiously. I think it shows you to be polite to other viewers though if you do reply.

Jessica,
If she chooses to be notified, she will....there is a yes/no option near the top of the page.

This is a common problem...people pose questions, then disappear......people keep commenting, the answer was given and the one questioning, moved on.
It might be a good idea for the mods to review protocol for opening threads....like stay show up and close it when you got your answer!

There is a 'reply' button .... so use it. That is what it is there for.

I believe too what Karen said is correct.

Members are correct. Your own comments mean nothing apart from who they are directed to. Use the reply link, that is what it is for.

I agree with Marlene.... especially when the answer is given and then others come on with assumptions that are normally wrong lol (not in this thread, just talking in general)

I don't even do that. My new policy on comments is that if someone comments on one of my pieces, I will then pick any of their pieces and comment on that.

I used to reply with a "Thank You" every time someone commented. But it started to look cheesy with all the "thank you" from me stacking up on my pages.

You're not talking about comments on the "Activity" page, right?

LOL, Roz, I think it looks really corny as well to say thank you so many times. It would feel weird not to be thankful as well.

Roz ... I was going to say what you did but thought it might turn the direction of the thread ... but that is what I do as well.

I think it has a lot to do with that extra click. When you're on the activity page there is no reply. You have to open the image to reply. I usually always reply. But when I'm on my phone, I have to do 2 clicks because the first click doesn't let me move the box around so I have to click image again. Sometimes it's easier to comment in activity page when on the mobile site (which I feel has a lot of bugs). Usually I wait till I'm on the computer to reply.

I guess I'm cheesy then. I thank people! :) Wasn't aware the person may not see it though.

It's easy to see replies on their work

Activity / images I have commented on....
