Somebody once said :
"Abstraction comes in degrees. In the case of visual art, it can be measured by the degree to which a visually perceptible object differs from the unaltered things we humans regularly see around us. Abstraction can occur along some dimensions and not others, all within the same field of view. Subtle variations in the degree of abstraction are difficult for us to describe, so we have very generic terms to convey abstraction, usually based on well-known examples. Many artists consciously toy with degrees of abstraction, knowing that people find it very difficult to look at an object without wanting to find something recognizable."
Seems applicable to some of the excellent work posted here.
