Contests

I think people need to "limit" the number of entries to "100" for each contest. People will not go through the 300 or so images to vote on them! It is way too time consuming. Most will vote for the best at the beginning of the batch and stop voting after about the middle. Anyone else agree? I know myself, I sometimes enter contests with 800 entries! This is absurd! I don't have the time to look at 800 entries. If the limit is 100, everyone would have a fair chance of winning.

it would fill up too quick. by the time i get there, it's already 300. contests aren't about winning or voting, it's about getting others to see the work. it would be better to limit entries to no more than 3.

I know that it is about "seeing" the work... but nobody will see it if your photo is number "379" of the bunch.

I saw one that had over 4000 entries lol.. Mike I see a steampunk contest.. if you haven't entered that you should you would win by a landslide.. Jean

I started checking the number of images already entered before I add any of my own. If it's over 500 I don't even bother.

That is why I limit my contests to paintings only and specific paintings at that. Entries are usually less than or about 200.

unless there's another steampunk, i'm probably in it. i enter wed and sat for contests, doing them in a batch. i think people look at things a sheet at a time and not one by one. and these are later picked up in search engines anyway. i've gotten sales for things that never had points.

you can also enter at the last second and be on top.

What is "steampunk", anyway??

I still think it is important to "vote"... if one enters, one should vote....

steampunk takes place in the age of the victorians, often during a war of some kind, usually fought with airships and odd guns. a mechanical dystopia, using clockwork and such, and steam. imagine a world that has the elegance of the victorian age, with brass filigree everything. and our current world, minus plastic, rubber, and steel (for the most part). where everything is run on steam power, with lots of pollution and crime.

there are potential super hero's using home made tools. but that's a different genre in the same class.

a 1000 leagues under the sea is a steampunk story

inventions are unusually complicated, just like they were when they were first invented. cleanliness is not important.

cyberpunk is like steampunk but it takes place in the future, also usually a dystopia. cars flying, laser guns etc, all the while holding onto usually a deco past - like batman and gotham.

i've stopped voting. i don't vote for mine or anyone else's. when i did vote it would only be for mine. but i enter 30 or more at a time, and it would take too much time to vote for anything.

What you need to do when you enter contests is vote for your own images as soon as it starts and get them on the leaderboard. Then people see them or at least have a better chance of seeing them.

Yep, Adam...that's another good tip.

If a contest has more than 150-200 entries, I can guarantee I will wait and vote the leaderboard. And if my votes are limited, I probably won't even do that. Takes too long.

I agree. There are so many contest so I think one image that best fits the title or theme. if you have multiple images there will be other contest in which to enter those other images. I believe there has been 5 different heart or valentines related contest.
Right now I'm trying to get people to vote for "Fresh Eggs" in the Chick Days contest. This piece shows of my graphic art ability.

Oh and providing the proper link:

I believe this one takes you to the exact vote page.
