If You Sponser A Contest, Be Kind!

If you are sponsoring a contest and people enter.. .please if you decline entries send an email to the person to let them know. It is only civil you do so. The entries should be mentioned and why they were disqualified or not used. I have entered two contest recently that I know of and found my entries never were used. I monitor the contest and the images were used under my contest only to find they were not there when the contest ended or was in voting..Also I read back through and did not find a reason that my entries could not be used. So if you please always email the person submitting and tell them you are not using their entries and also when the contest goes to voting in a contest you are in ,please email entries and let them know. Thanks Jean

That would depend if the rules were followed or not. Most times rules are well spelled out and written for everyone to read. A lot of submitters dont read the rules, they just drop in their image and make the person that sponsored the contest have to police the contest. Its not fair to others that did follow the rules, and also not fair to the sponsor to give a reason to someone that did not follow the rules.
If the sponsor did not write the rules well or right, then they should send an email as to why an image was deleted

Are you sure your entries were submitted? If they are, they should immediately show up under My Contest.

If your artwork was definitely submitted and then removed by the contest host, I agree with Kevin. There was probably some fine print in the rules. Maybe they required each image to contain a unicorn, exactly 5 shades of pink, and NO right angles. Sometimes when the rules are too verbose, I don't bother entering the contest. I haven't hosted a contest, but from what I gather, there are a lot of people entering artwork in every contest without reading the contest title or the rules.

The contests are fun, so keep trying. Nice photography, btw!

Perhaps, in a perfect world..but with all the artists ignoring or just plain not reading contest rules, it would be unreasonable to think every contest administrator would waste their time reiterating rules.

At the end of the contest your images may not be there if you didn't receive any votes or not enough votes. Or was the contest for another medium?

Or have creative form rejections on hand?

If not, maybe this route would suit for venting frustrations: http://www.managementtoday.co.uk/news/1216651/Top-ten-rejection-letters-time/

It's the nature of the beast here on FAA Jean. Notices going out would be okay, but there are too many here that could care less about the rules, and many more that have a different interpretation of the rules. The Contest Host has the right at their discretion to make the decision. No Offense should be taken... and contests are not necessarily an indicator of which one is the best. More a case of who can get out the vote.

I agree that many don't read carefully all the rules. So I'm hosting a Painted Murals Contest please feel free to join.I'll give my feedback as to if people are submitting after reading the rules or not.LOL!

It's not always "The Artists"

A "Kinetic Sculpture Only" Contest deleted the following... I must assume, thinking it was a photo of actual Vultures.

By the way, a painting won the contest

I periodically host contests. I have two going now and the reason that I started hosting them is because there are not enough contests geared toward painters exclusively. I clearly state the rules right up front but they are seldom followed. If I have doubt and think that the person made a mistake on the description, I email them and ask. All of the others who ignore the rules, I delete and I do not have time to email all of them as their are just too many. These contests are basically just for fun anyhow and often the most popular person with the most friends wins.

First thing that I do. Check to make sure that I can enter if I have an entry that suits the contest rules. Also next thing I make sure that I have followed the rules to the letter. Third thing I do is read back over every line and all of the rules to make sure I have followed them ,and finally select entries and then check to make sure they are under my contest. .

Later even as the contest goes to voting ,I check to find if my entries are still there and when I receive no notification of winners I check and my entries are no longer under my contest and were never seen or voted on.This has happened several times and also my counter on views on my profile page goes back 2 to 5 to 10 sometimes views .I have never gotten an answer about that one but I do not understand why someone would not send an email telling someone why they were not using the entries that are already under my contest. Do they just decide ,well I don't know this person or like it and it has no votes so I will delete it? It isn't a question of following the rules, that is the first thing I do and make sure that I can meet the requirements. I think it is only civil a person should be notified if people bother to join their contest.Jean

I appreciate everyone's response. This was only a request and just to let contest sponsors know to please be aware. I do read english very well and comprehend ,I may not speak it so well but can read it and understand. Thank you again for reading my discussion. Jean

I'm curious to know which contest you entered these photos in.

I see that you have some nudes. If the contest requires "family friendly" images, they will probably remove nudes. Other than that, I can't think of what might be going on.

If you haven't done so already, I would suggest entering the Photography All Subjects Group Logo contest (link below). This one looks like it's pretty broad. I would go with one of your non-nude photos (to be on the safe side). It says that you need to join the group, so you should do that. Joining groups is a great way to get exposure.

Hi Jessica, I will post the names of the contest if still on the contest page and Julie, Yes I do have some nudes and only put them in contest that specially ask for nudes even when there is no disclosure about nudes I never enter them unless the contest is specifically for that sort of subject. I do have some nudes but they are tasteful and beautiful or just intriguing because of the use of digital techniques but I don't push them on anyone. Thanks i will check out the link.

Jean, you could always start your own contest. Then you could make the rules, the more contests the merrier. I know this has nothing to do with contests and Paris is a large city but I have family there and always wanted to visit and meet them. It's on my bucket list.

Jean, maybe your could host a contest yourself. For one, you will see what most of us are talking about, and have what you like in the contest, and two, you will see if their is a glitch or something wrong with your entries. Then you could send a report to tech support.
You can enter your own contest.

Phyllis and Kevin I think you have to have a group first to have a contest, not sure on that but will look into it..that would be fun actually .. I have tech issues now that go unsolved so don't think that would work Kevin but most of the time tech is usually on everything that I email them about ,it is just some they aren't sure and are looking into it. Phyllis you should come to Paris.. it is an amazing city and great place to be. The sites ,the sounds and the culture is so intriguing. So much to see and do.If you come plan on spending at least a month here because you will only see a fraction of the beauty of a great city and its inhabitants but it would be worth it ..
