Do You Sell Your Artwork Outside Of Faa?

Would be interesting to know, if some of you have exhibitions of their artworks and sell a lot of artwork outside of FAA? I´m returning to painting after a long break. Before that I sold lots of paintings through friends, collegues etc.

I sell my work in four galleries on Maui and working on getting into my fifth. I also do Maui Open Studio tour. Which happens to be starting tonight with the Opening Reception.

Yes I do sell my works outside of FAA, specially my originals.
Been a member on other POD's artsites
Post and sell my artworks also on social media.
Join art groups, made exhibits, and art fairs.
Remember artist are also like salesman, we have to push and sell and market our works.
We really have to do all the hard work and all those nitty gritty in order to sell our works.
And the results would be very fullfilling really. So never limit yourself on a single site.

Almost everything I sell I sell to local collectors. I make my living off of those sales. I sell upwards 5 or so paintings a weekend at the local art walk. That keeps me super busy.

I do more selling at artshows than I do online.

All my income is from sale of original paintings through galleries, art fairs and commissions. My FAA sales does not pay my bills.

I sell on a German site and from my home studio.

I sell in galleries, street and art fairs occasionally and I have a small gallery in my home where people know me and shop .

I did - but when you get old and decrepit - you kind of stop doing that outside stuff - hard on the joints.

Yes. I sell out of a local gallery. I also sell through three licensing agencies, to places ranging from small galleries throughout th US, to Wayfair, Overstock, other online outlets and a couple national retail chains.

I've sold a few on other PODs. Don't do any promoting there and have made more $ there than here. Not sure why except that there may be a different audience.

Thank you for all the answers. I might try to ask some local galleries, or the upcoming art fair to sell some of my works.

I sell my original paintings outside of this site. Most sales come through my Facebook page.

My original paintings are sold through a gallery or out of my home studio/gallery though in the last week I sold two original paintings here on FAA.

I have some stuff in a local gallery, I've sold prints at Festival/Fair settings, I use a great local printer for custom orders and prints purchased by family and friends and I use FAA to market to the masses.

My sales are pretty evenly split between FAA, sales thru me and sales thru galleries.

I sell originals only.

I sale locally & Faa was my only online art gallery. I have yet to sell anything online here. I recently started working on another store for another pod site. Guess we'll see how it goes.

Dan Richards

I sell more on other sites than here. I had a great Christmas sales result on two other sites, and still done nothing on here.

GH FiLben

I've tried other sites but find FAA is the easiest and less expensive...no "hidden" fees.

Most of my work sells offline or through another site that is not POD. But originals are like that

I sell more frequently on a couple of other sites. This year I am planning on setting up at festivals as I think artists have better results at those events.

I'm about 80 now, and I've been hustling for 40 years, being OUT THERE, doing Face to Face shows..".Catch and Carry" shows.....

I'm slowing down a bit,so, for the last 5 years I've been attempting to make inroads in this cyber universe

I can still though make more money in one day, selling directly, where my puss confronts my buyer's puss,.... Than all the money I've ever made here on FAA plus all from the other web sites I'm currently on.

Edit:

This is How I Hustled

I have my work with a license site and here. It is too soon to see how FAA will fair. I would love to get into open air sales. Does anyone have a recommendation what you should have and what you can do away with?

Roger Swezey

Iris,

There is a litany of requirements for surviving a major art show.

I suggest you start small, perhaps indoors,..And learn from other exhibitors.......In general, they are a helpful bunch

YES..........

I make most of my transactions outside of this website. I try to drive all inquires involving anything framed + matted or loose prints on FineArt papers to my AW or my FAA page. I simply can't stand assembling frames, mounting prints and mat cutting. The FAA vendors do a real nice job with that, both the small framed stuff (36" and under) and paper print quality.

I prefer to handle the large prints orders on Aluminum/Metalprints myself with my preferred vendors. I guess for my WEB based sales I can say I handle most myself, with the inquires driven from a vast number of sources.

Away from sales specific to physical art, I do 100% of my licensing contracts direct with the clients. All royalties are handled between myself and client as well.

More from exhibits, etc., than online sources!

I consider this my "home" site, although I'm on two other sites as well. The forums and the profits are not comparable to here, though. Just starting to advertise....hoping to start selling more soon. I will be in the local art store by this summer, but I have to oder mats and plastic bags and new business cards first (not going through the expense of framing at this point). I'm hoping that will drive people here as well.

Hiya Danielle,

As most FAA members know, I made a living as an artist supporting my family and generally paying life's bills through the sale of my talents as an artist. So I won't go into that story again but my advice to you is don't expect to support yourself or make a handsome living through the sale of your art here at FAA. Only a very few FAA artists are able to do that. If I would have relied on FAA sales of my paintings and prints I would have wound up in the poorhouse. It's true that you have to market yourself in order to get your name around but ask yourself this question, why would anybody purchase your paintings instead of the 65.000+ artists who frequent this site to sell their art?

I use FAA as a portfolio but I am very happy when somebody purchases one of my prints. I have never sold an original here at FAA but have sold many originals elsewhere. Don't be fooled by all of the sales that FAA publishes each and every day because a lot of them are from family and friends. I am not saying that you shouldn't join and nurture FAA's website and tools because FAA is the number one site in the world to sell your art from. I am just saying don't sit back and wait for all the money to roll in.

Yes.

I sell more at art fairs then online. Online is increasing, but I want my eggs in more than one nest. For instance, At the end of last year I had no sales here, but a number on a well known craft site.

Jane Linders

I sell my art at art fairs. Yeah it's a big hassle to set up a tent, cope with the weather, etc. I find it much more rewarding to meet my customers face to face and have a chat, than selling art online. I also sell out of galleries, retail shops, craft fairs and online through Etsy. FAA is by far the best Print On Demand sight. You will not find anything better than FAA. Beleive me, I've tried.

Marlene Burns

But of course!
I've been around decades longer than faa ;)

Loretta Luglio

I sell my work in gallery and shows. I have sold some originals through FAA but as this is a POD site there is no focus or original art. I have sold through my personal website but the bulk of sales are brick and mortar galleries.

Jim Whalen

To paraphrase an old blues song, "If it wasn't for off FAA sales, I wouldn't have any sales at all."

Yes in Germany. and since I sell on a platform very good.

David King

Sales? What's that?..............Actually, I've only been on FAA a couple months and I only sell originals so the combination of those two facts means I haven't sold anything on FAA, I really joined just to have an inexpensive online portfolio site. I've hardly sold outside of FAA either though. I sold one painting to a coworker a little over a year ago. I sold a few cheap paintings on another site last spring, but then nothing sold for months and since there was a monthly fee I couldn't justify being there anymore and dropped the account. I have sold a couple cheap paintings on ebay, but haven't sold anything anywhere since last September.

Danielle, I sell much more locally than I do here. I will do a small show quarterly, and sell pieces 13X19 matted for an 18X24 frame, and make a pretty good markup. When I am at a local show, there might be a half dozen other artists, and people are coming to see the show (me) on their own, as opposed to me trying to drive online people here, and being in competition with tens of thousands of artists. I am fortunate, one of my brothers owns a well known gallery in London. I constantly sell 90x70 prints there. For those who still know what an old Dye-transfer art print is, can also be simulated with digital.
Totally different imagery from here though, much more old fashioned.

I still make the odd sale here, I am not trying really, no social media or anything. I just use my site here for self-promotion.
