I do and I share on social media. Not sure I would say it "captures" an audience, but some do better than others. The last blog I wrote actually featured photographs from another FAA member in anticpation of some shots I hope to get this summer.

i don't know if there is a limit, i don't really capture the audience because i don't know what to use besides a large net, a deep hole, and maybe a lone remote control as bait.

I have written something like 80 entries here in the blogs I do get several views on each one. I don't know how to post the link here...I guess if you want to "read me" you have to go to my profile and click on my blog entries. Some of them are about art, but most of them are just my thoughts on things, etc.

Funny you should ask...I just started my blog on faa last night and was planning on getting it a bit further on before I "out it" but since you asked

I find the blog feature here to be way too limiting so my only FAA blog post is a link to my BlogSpot blog, but FAA's blog is so limited it's not actually a hyperlink, at least I haven't been able to figure it out. I don't believe anybody as made it to my blog via FAA. It's also annoying that something as important as a blog does not have it's own spot on the header on the profile page. I can't imagine many people will figure out they need to click on "info" to find the blog.

I blog on my own site - dogfordstudios.com which populates my Tumblr blog, my main website, Google+, and who can remember what else.

If FAA and I should ever part ways I simply point my links some where else.

I use the blog feature on FAA, but I use it to promote my blog-blog ... does that count??

And oh by the way, thanks for the reminder, I needed to update it!!

@ David King ... your paintings are glorious! Love this one:

But I DO see a tab for your blog on your profile page's header ... it's the fourth tab from the left, same as mine ...

David King

Thanks for the kind comments Lois. The blog tab only appears on a profile page, but not on the website. Go to my website http://www.davidkingstudio.com and take a look there, the blog link only appears under the "info" pull down.

I've just started blogging here. I'm trying to keep it on the subject of a piece of work I have uploaded. I'm promoting to FB, Twitter, Pinterest and using Viralwoot for my pins. I'm getting about 100 readers of each post, I think and I know it will increase over time. Here's my most recent post:

http://fineartamerica.com/blogs/coronado-hospital-chapel-stained-glass.html

I like the ease of use and the ability to put a link and a photo. No complaints.

David, you're right!! HAH! I reference my blog (the real one) in my bio, with a hyperlink, so it's one of those things that I never even paid attention to!

@Michael in the beginning when I first joined Fine Art America 2013 yes I did create a few blogs. Because of my involvement in the actual technical managing of my gallery I put the blogs on the back burner until recently becoming retired and managing time I am involved with some pretty amazing projects. I do work when not on the sets of TV or motion pictures a new blog project.

Revised January 2015 Soon to release on the world wide web (BLOG) and here at Fine Art America A new blog Titled "Vintage Perspectives from a Photographer's Eye of The reenactment of the Battle of New Orleans"

I started to write a blog, but I wasn't sure if I had much new to say that hadn't already been said a million times before. I thought of paraphrasing and snatching from better blogs, but then I thought that that had probably been done a million times before also. Perhaps the better blogs were copies of even better blogs? At a certain point it becomes all too confusing

Sharon, that sounds pretty good, 100 views per blog. I thought I was getting quite a bit fewer than that except now I can't even see where the visitor counter is? I wasn't promoting the blog itself though. I guess I thought it would start getting visits over time but probably I haven't been posting enough for that! Congrats on yours, though.

Lois I also looked at your blog and I love it.

Lois Bryan

Thank you so much, Tatiana. Awfully kind of you. I'm sure you know, but there are at least two running forum discussions here at FAA that fellow bloggers can add their latest to. I always post to them. My goal, when I do, is always to check out the other recent blogs, but lately I've been a bad girl and haven't. Putting that on the to-do list!!

I have played with blogging some, and do think it can be a very effective means of promotion. I cut and paste my official blog onto the FAA blog and pull it into my website as a frame:
Mea Fine Art

This is another area that has surprised me, but I'm surprised at the traffic my blogs get everyday. At least for painters (thank you Bob Ross) people are good with watching paint dry; who knew?

You guys are doing a lot better than me, I've been blogging for several years and only average a few hits/day and most of them are from an artist's forum I participate in, what's the secret?

Mary Ellen Anderson

What kind of artist are you David? I do think there is an almost hypnotic fascination with watching a painting emerge from a blank canvas. That moment where the viewer 'figures it out', and joins the artist in watching the art that was in the canvas being released. Or sculpture where the figure literally steps out of the stone. This is the only thing I can come up with, and I'll be interested to see if it's this single fascination (like watching flame) that could be the difference?

I very rarely blog about promotions, almost always how-to's in conjunction with WIP demos. I can't imagine that I'm incredibly informative as I learned so long ago that it's like asking you how you are able to walk. We'll yeah, you can walk but you've never thought about how you're doing it. I always assume it's like when I'd try and use one of my mom famous recipes.
"Mom, this taste nothing like yours."
"How much salt did you put in?"
"Mom, salt is NOT on the ingredient list?"
"Well you just knew that, right?"

I don't know how to do videos or anything else but articles. So it's not technical dazzle, I barely know what I'm doing on the net. But if you can blog about your WIP and methodology. If I can remember, so can you.

Once upon a time - I created three or four blogs - seems no one ever saw them - and I'm not a great blogger or writer. I mostly just stumble around on the internet - somehow using the computer generally almost comes naturally. I've shown other people how to use their computers - and successfully I might add - but when it actually comes to using it myself - I'm impatient and easily po'd and just hang it up and quit. I also have a horrible temper - everyone should know about their own temper - One site I was on where you could delete your posts - I've been known to delete whole months worth of posts - - -.

I can relate Roy, I've deleted plenty of posts myself, even a whole blog that I'd spent over a year on.

Mary, I've done some process and WIP posts, they don't get any more views than the other posts. I've done plenty of posts talking about other art related activity such as sketching and painting outdoors, about my equipment, etc, rather than just posting a finished piece......ditto. It's really hard after over three years of blogging to see that it has any value for me.

Brian Wallace

Occasionally, I see a response to one of my blogs, but that's not the only reason I do it. I use it primarily for keeping a record of certain events related to my artwork such as placing in contests (FAA or otherwise), art sales, publishing, permissions for individuals wanting to use my works for a project, etc. Stuff that might be useful to market my art or raise interest in me as an artist or just look good as part of a resume. It's also a personal measuring stick to show me how far I've come and what I've done successfully.

I'm not sure why, but the "artist website" where I enter my blog, doesn't show people's responses. Only the FAA version of the blog does that, so I don't usually see replies unless I go out of my way to look there. I thought the artist website was supposed to be snych'd to the FAA website.

Like Bob said - "Funny you should ask". I just started one in an attempt to create more of a presence on the web. Not sure where it well head in the long term, but for now I'm exploring the art-science connection.

I haven't set up Google Analytics yet to know if there have been any hits - unless there's a way to find that info somewhere in our profiles or behind the scenes?

Like Brian, I do want kind of an 'artist's journal' feel to my blog. A place for people to get more into my mind. So I don't in real life go around talking all the time about why someone should buy my work (no matter how much this is on my mind). So I've approached my blogs topics with the intention that they are general enough topics to promote that opinion. For example: my most popular post is: How is Fine Art Different Than Other Art? with almost 5000 views?

Besides the fact that it's a common discussion on art forums, It was a question I myself had when I returned to the art market. These are opinion articles and different than how to's. These give you a chance to explain why you do what you do. Like why an oil painter was going to do art geared for decorators, or OE prints. There are serious biases in what is a fine art market. My blog gave me a chance to express my opinion and therefore validate why I think what I'm doing is fine art; The definitions of what my brand means.

So my first blog was 'Resuming my art career' and my current is 'Oil Painting - What to do when things go seriously wrong'. It really is a journal of this experience, but hopefully said in a way that could interest anyone. That way I can tweet, post to fb, and other feeds with something other than 'buy this'. So I do promote my blog articles. They are pulled into the front page of my gallery site as well as promoted on twitter.

Hi I have a blog on here, I have only written ten so far (I write on a Monday and Friday) but they lead to quite a bit of interaction via email or other groups where I promote them. They are written for a specific audience and I imagine I am talking to them as I write. Hope the link below works, I am traveling and writing this one fingered on a tab!

To those of you wondering how to know your view counts for blog posts - Go to the tab that shows all member blogs in date order. That screen shows the number of visits and the number of comments for each post. You have to page down and find your last blog and keep paging for the other older ones. I don't know another way to find the count.

I'm writing about a specific upload. in each post. Why did I take the shot and what do I find interesting or want to tell the audience. I put a marketing message and call to action at the bottom.

I market my blog posts (and art uploads) through Tweets, Pinterest Pins, FB profile posts, FB Group posts and FAA discussion posts. I think my best secret is using Viralwoot in conjunction with Pinterest. It has really increased my action and engagement lately.

Hi Michael! I like to take advantage of all the perks FAA offers. I started my blog here over a year ago and add a new one every month. I try to offer lots of variety re subject matter/topic, be somewhat entertaining and always personal. To tell the truth, I get some interest, but not a lot. My style tends to be more conversational. I also ask for input/interaction from members, as well.

Certain of my blogs resonate better than others, which makes sense. But, there are only so many hours in the day and I already spend a lot of time here, as it is, hosting scads of contests, posting & participating in the discussions, adding new work, fixing my galleries, joining groups, commenting on the comments, promoting my work & that of others, etc. etc. I think most of us just don't have the time to then read blogs! However, when I do have a free moment, and am in the mood, I will check them out. Some are quite interesting, others not so much! Some post way too many, especially one right after the other. I mean, enough already! There's no depth or thought put into them at all. If you're going to blog, make an effort and do it with style!

Sharon,
This 'Viralwoot', what's the angle for these free content manager apps? How do these guys make their money? Is there a premium account? It says free forever accounts, but nothing about how they will be making money.

I use tweetadder for twitter and this is what they do, but the free account works fine for me. Though I hate my technical dependency I'm developing.

I just started asking my self the same question. I started my Wordpress Blog a few years back and it's definitely taken on a life of its own. At that time I discovered that maintaining my own gallery page was cumbersome and that is when I discovered Fine Art America. It was such an easy solution to just re-direct my gallery page to FAA. Now, several years later I am discovering a dynamic and interactive community at FAA and I'm thinking why not re-direct my FAA blog page to Wordpress, in other words use the FAA blog tab to re-direct to wordpress. is this a lights on moment for me or am I just the last person to think of the idea? If you are interfacing your blogs, i'd like to hear how its working for you.

I mentioned earlier in this thread that I write to a specific audience; I focus on my most recently uploaded artwork but I also think it is important to get your personality across so I try and build a story. Each of my blogs are so far getting between 100-150+ views with an upward trend which is the plan of course! I am trying to build a rapport with my audience - they probably just think I am nuts but that is okay! I deliberately chose to put my blog on FAA because I do a lot of other things and I needed this blog to be clearly differentiated from everything else I do. The important thing is to ensure the blog is marketed along with everything else.
