Trash Your Images ... Good For Self Evolution

I just clicked through all of my galleries here, performing a quick-don't-think-first-impression assessment that led me to delete six or so of my images, because they just seemed troublesome now in one way or another.

I am past the point of worrying about broken links, since breaks tend to heal themselves and create stronger bones. I would rather keep a portfolio that I can honestly live with, rather than keep as many links to me as possible, no matter what.

I've done that many times, Robert. Of course, when I started here I didn't even have a good camera. I was relying on a cheap point and shoot and scanned film shots. Some of them were ok, but when you have to throw three filters on something so it will print....well, I think I've deleted those now. I've deleted over 400 images since I started here.

About six months ago I deleted around 25 of my images. They just weren't thrilling me as much as the others. Some were similar to others and some were different colorations of the same image and seemed redundant. I know about broken links, etc...but I just felt the need to clean house.

I deleted two images last night. Of course, I just loaded them last night and immediately realized I had already posted them. Not a big fan of deleting images as deleted images never sell!

I have done that twice and only been on here about a month. Now I only keep images that I want to keep archived. If they have views ok.if they don't ok...The funny thing is I have always created tons of art and over the years given it away and thrown away probably more than I have ever kept or sold..Its just something we all pretty much do. When I first go online I started putting images of things that I had seen and places I had been and things that are common and not that interesting.I realized that when I got an account here at FAA,this is for me first and foremost as a gallery of pieces I love and not just a place to hold photos. The second thing that is nice is that if someone sees something they like of yours they can purchase it but first and foremost this is my place to keep pieces of art that I do in fact really care about. I admit there are some images in my gallery at the moment that are going to be trashed asap..but im not eve sure why I put them there to start with.. so stuff happens but they are going bye bye.

Yes, there are some things I would like to change, but at the moment, I concentrate on making new stuff and donīt bother with the old, which is uploaded already. I think most people on FAA are searching for a subject, and not for an artists portfolio. Anyway, I concentrate more on the pictures I show on my personal website, where the embeded FAA shop is only a small part of it.

I uploaded this image a couple of days ago. This image has been kicking around in my PC for months. I did work on it
recently and came up with a few different versions. One was very stark. I uploaded it. Then I deleted and replaced it
with this warmer version. I do not like this image much. I like the statement.

My dad loves this image. Every time I zig he zags, the story of our relationship.

Because this is the last uploaded image of mine, I currently like none of my art much. I am questioning my work based on this
image.

I uploaded this work a week or so ago. I love this work. Just me perhaps, but I love it.

My mother actually said it is better than the original. My relationship with my mother is if she zigs and I zag I need to
think twice. She is zagging my zag with this one.

When I uploaded this work last week, I loved every last thing I had uploaded to FAA. I was on cloud nine. Things
could not be better. Just some food for thought. You are not your last work of art.

You know when you are trying to loose weight they tell
you dont weight yourself.

If you weight yourself every day you are either up or down. Every
day offers you a chance to be a totally different weight hour to hour.

So many times if you weight yourself your weight will be up. And
if your weight is up you are crushed totally.

If you weight is down you are happier.

But what do you remember during the course of an entire day?
Will you think all day long my weight is down when it is?
Or will you think all day long my weight is up when it is?

I will answer this another way, eventually your days up
will out number your days down.

Reverse up for down and you will find out how you feel about days
when you post one image you are on the fence about.

I just deleted the only two photographs in my portfolio. I really liked one of them but felt like the photography was out of place with everything else.

David, I can relate to that feeling. This is my most recent upload and it just isn't sitting comfortably with me. I'm sure I'll come to accept it with time... or not.

It seems to be a lot easier to delete a photo than to trash a painting, but I have done that too on more than one occasion. I just could not live with it or bear its failure any longer.
