Just wondering if your own comments count for rankings. I didn't think so, but I have noticed that with a number of members that come up with LOTS of comment, 1/2 to 3/4 of the comments are their own. If so, maybe I need to pick up on commenting on my own work:)
Thanks

Some people think they do. But would a business make an image raise to the top because it got a lot of comments or sales?

No they do not

I think the reason this is so confusing for people is that commenting on your own - even using the reply option which is what I do - does cause a number uptick in your comments counter. So I know it doesn't count because I've been told so repeatedly by Abbie , but it's hard to believe just the same. The system is not very intuitive in this regard.

Thank you Abbie:)
And yes Nikolyn, I have to agree with you about it being a bit confusing, how you can distinguish the difference in the counts. I checked a photographers work, he had 90 some comments, 72 were his own!!
I simply don't have time for that, plus I much prefer looking at and commenting on other people's work:)

It shows the number of comments each image gets, even if they are your own. It's not showing the number of comments that "count." It would actually be more confusing if it didn't show your own comments. I suspect many people make comments on their own shots (not meaning replying to comments others have left) is that they like the new comment to show in the activity thread.

Exactly. You have THAt many comments but they are not going to be seen by us where it counts

I didn't know the comments "counted" for anything other than people being nice, that's why I always reply back a thank you.

But your saying they "count"? What exactly does that mean Isabella? Does it rank/rate you off the comments by others?

I image the only way they count is if they add context to your image for Google. i.e. the comments include contextual keywords to help describe the image.
