Noah And The Flood

To prevent a hijack of another thread I present these reasons why the flood story n the bible makes no damn sense to me.

1. Did ever SINGLE human beside Noah and his family deserve to die? Were they the only humans that worshipped God?

2. Why a flood? Why not a sudden heart attack or dying in their sleep? Why something so cruel and horrific?

3. Why kill all the animals? What did they do?

4. What happened to all the fish? Wouldn't the water be too fresh for saltwater fish or too salty for freshwater fish?

5. There is no way you could fit two of every animal (and their food) on a boat that small.

6. How did the plant life repopulate the earth?

7. Just like the incest and in-breeding in the Adam and Eve story how could Noah and his family repopulate the Earth?

These are just a few of the thought I have had about this story. It makes no damn sense and is nonsensical enough to make me doubt existence of God. I know most of the "pat" answers to most of these questions. But the answers make as much sense as the original questions.

I guess to believe this story you have to have "faith". Which, to me, is the same as saying "yes, it doesn't make any damn sense but we CAN'T question the story, that is against the "rules" set down for the creatures given free will.

John, I can answer all your questions what having to address any of them. God can do any thing he want's and is able to , He is God, he is not human, he is the potter. These questions have been asked throughout the ages, the problem is we are trying to understand the mind of God with our own earthly human, limited brains. The asking of the questions itself is a flawed ,it assumes that somehow we are equal with God and demand an answer to some thing we don't understand, or chose to understand they way we chose to.

Roman 9:21
On the contrary, who are you, O man, who answers back to God? The thing molded will not say to the molder, "Why did you make me like this," will it? Or does not the potter have a right over the clay, to make from the same lump one vessel for honorable use and another for common use? What if God, although willing to demonstrate His wrath and to make His power known, endured with much patience vessels of wrath prepared for destruction?…

Mario, if you would.. could you please translate to everyday English in you your own words?

And again why were there no dinosaurs on the ark? Brontosaurs couldn't swim. Either could Trex and all the other species of land based dinosaurs.

John Crothers

We are made in his image Mario so wouldn't we have a bit of understanding.

But what you said is as good an excuse as any other one I heard without actually admitting you have no idea why these things happened.

You are being a good little sheep!

Mario Carta

Bob, every day English, the concept that John's question don't take into account is the realization that God first and foremost is sovereign (a supreme ruler), if that were not enough, Gods mind is in comprehensible, one who recognizes these characteristic about God would not have a need to question his authority or his omnipotence. Further the questions were flawed because they are coming from a finite mind when Gods mind in infinite.

I would much rather build my relation with God through his son Jesus on the foundation of trust rather than of rebellion and disobedience, through this method even a human father would be more likely to satisfy your desire to know, but with your frame of mind you get spanked and put to bed early, and get know questions answered. See there is this humility which is required of us when approaching God, God has made it very clear that he HATES human pride. We must approach him in humility and we must first demonstrate a desire to believe, we must make the first move towards God, once we do we will reciprocate and move towards us. That should not be so hard to understand.

Yes, I am a sheep and Jesus is my shepherd! amen to that!

why do you keep calling your God, "he" ? i thought God was the supreme being, not mortal.

There is no geologic evidence of any flood event that occurred at the time - and place - that it was alleged to have happened.

No further questions. Case closed.

Because when he sent his Begotten son JESUS who was fully God and fully man he sent him in the form of a man, God is neither male nor female, for is he is spirit and spirits have no body or form or shape or flesh or sexual organs. All throughout the bible God is referred to as He, and the names that he reveals are all masculine names ,like Jehovah.

Evidence found of Noah's ark flood victims

Ship probes land below Black Sea submerged 7,000 years ago and linked to biblical disaster.

http://www.theguardian.com/science/2000/sep/14/internationalnews.archaeology

Before you take Mr. Piersons presupposed statement as any type of True statement, read what real Marine archaeologists have found, the first evidence of a people who perished in a great flood of the Black Sea that has been linked with the story of Noah's ark.

Using robot underwater vehicles more than 300ft below the sea's surface, they have begun to map a rolling landscape, fed by meandering streams and marked with wattle and daub houses, that was flooded more than 7,000 years ago.

The discovery by Robert Ballard, the scientist who discovered the wrecked Titanic.

i expect that was written by another man so why would i believe it? your video just tells us about a flood. where was Noah and his animaux?

But I though the one they found on top of mt Ararat was the "real" ark. They even built a museum up there.

John Crothers

9. God gets pissed at humans.

So angry that, in a fit, he floods the entire world. Essentially acting like a spoiled kid tearing up his room and breaking his toys.

But what a minute. God is all-knowing, isn't he? How did he NOT know this was going to happen? Why didn't he just kill Adam and Eve and start over?

Mario Carta

That's a rather feminist statement. So you only believe statements women make?

Bob Galka

The video is talking about localized flooding. There have certainly been many floods when the ice ages [ yes there have been many ice ages ] ended and all that ice melted. Not proof of anything like a global flood.

Carolyn Weltman

by the way that Guardian piece claims noahs ark was 7000 years ago and Mario, you said according to the bible the world is only 6000 years old so how did that happen?

Carolyn Weltman

i am so far from being a feminist that you just made me laugh again. no, it was not a feminist statement. however under those terms, claiming god is a he is a very chauvinistic statement. Mario, stop inventing. where did i ever say anything at all about only believing statements women make. that's just a silly thing to say.

Mario Carta

John, those questions, you might have the opportunity to ask him yourself, I don't claim know how to answer these types of questions beyond what I tried to explain to you already, which you don't acknowledge , and I don't waste my days thinking about these type of childlike questions, when there is so much more I get from God in being in a relationship with him, rather then imagining all sorts of reason why not to trust him, which may be a direct result of satan planting those seeds of doubt.

Carolyn Weltman

ohhhhh so you believe in satan too. i thought satan didn't really exist in the bible.

I never claimed God is He, actually I said he is neither he or she only that all through the Bible he is referred to as he, and his son Jesus also God was a He, correct? so know you again are misrepresenting what I said, but happy that I still am making you laugh. It's better than upsetting you or having you think I'm trying to insult in some way.

Hi Patricia, thanks. The rest of the link is even more "enlightening" with info about how Judea, Christianity and Islam are considered totalitarian religions. Had it not been for Patrick's comment, I wouldn't have put the two, together. Eye-opening.

I'm happy to be out of the Father Knows Best and Donna Reed era!

Once again I haven't read this whole thread so I guess I'm jumping in here.......... I came across this YouTube video last fall........ some of it may sound really strange, especially if you haven't heard it before... The "talking with his hands" can get distracting and it's really long, but it is filled with interesting information... I'm not sure what to make of it all but some of you may find it interesting...

Hi Joy, nice to see you again.

I watched your video for about 15 minutes but honestly, just couldn't get into it and it's over 3 hours long!

Since you haven't read the whole thread I went back into the big skip to get a video that Lawrence offered us, for you. It's about 50 minutes long. If you have the time, you might find it filled with interesting info also. I won't usually watch vids that long but I'm glad I did on this one.

It's titled Noah's Ark - The Real Story and an award winning BBC documentary:
