Sorry to hear loss of one our FAA members here for the last eight years, Donald Maier, his biography a testimony to his career of a consummate artist. I only knew him here, happening across his work five years ago; he was always professional, courteous, helpful and relaxed -- the same way he seemed to do his art in watercolor, pastel and oils. Just the images on his gallery page, most of them plein air,
speak powerfully, http://fineartamerica.com/profiles/donald-maier.html?page=2; or on his Images page, the image third row down, left, "Bass Fishing", http://fineartamerica.com/profiles/donald-maier.html?tab=artwork
... the girl's figure with reflected light on the back of her white blouse, so almost-haphazardly rendered but the gesture and mood, not to mention the beautiful aqua water of the overall scene, quite remarkable in it's utterly simple rendering. A superb watercolorist and artist, he was an encouragement to me in the cruel world of plein air watercolor and, once in while, he liked something I did and would toss me a bone of recognition -- not very often but of course that made it all the more valuable.
