Amazon Prime - $72 - Today Only Sat. 1/24/2015

Most know what amazon prime is - free shipping, streaming, more... If you don't, look it up.

But for those who do, today only, Sat. 1/24/2015 the $$99 prime is $72

I believe it's for new subscribers only

Just a FYI

Prime - $72

Indeed a good deal for anyone considering on giving Amazon Prime a try. Thanks for the heads-up.

My "Prime" membership just renewed last week. For our family it is well worth the fee. We shop a LOT online and also take advantage of the streaming video at both of our homes. When Amazon began to offer the streaming video I cancelled NetFlix, - which covers the cost of the Prime service.

An added plus (for us) is that our Delaware home is 15 miles from a large Amazon distribution center. If we buy something that happens to be in stock at that center we get it delivered the next day for no extra charge. We're also "lucky" that there is no sales tax for items shipped to Delaware. :)

Sounds like a good deal, but we don't order that often, or stream videos/movies. My brother and his wife use the Prime program and cancelled their Netflix subscription also.

MUCH better than Netflix. Way more new videos and always updated. Netflix always was so dated and their homepage is rubbish, SO hard to find anything

Ach, well, I got the 99 dollar charge a couple of days ago because I did it for Christmas. Darn. Oh well, I'm ordering my printer ink through Amazon and everything else I can think of. My husband is already using the streaming. We got ourselves a smart tv for Christmas.

From a shopper's perspective....
Anyone can try out amazon prime for up to 30 days for free...just be sure to cancel if you don't need/want/like it or you will be billed. I tried it out while my ankle was broken and I was housebound...it was a life saver..and the free shipping was 2 day delivery, even on Sunday.

Gonna play devil's advocate here....I just read an article that said the average prime member is spending at least twice as much than the non-prime members at Amazon. ;)

IF you shop online regularly, it is a smokin' deal, but I'm bet you already know that!

We save a bundle with Amazon Prime shipping. Living in a very small town, we end up buying quite a bit online. We also like the streaming video since we gave up cable quite a while ago.

still a lot of money. thing is, there is an amazon hub just a few miles from me. but they deliberately wait a week before sending anything just to make prime look good.

I doubt that's the reason, Mike, it's probably some kind of convoluted logistics where the people farther away get faster shipping than the people close by.

You're not into conspiracies, are you? LOL.

@MM

We cut the cable just last night! More about that later!

Amazon prime is an incredible bargain at $72. That works out to $6 per month. Even a light shopper making only one purchase a month will save that in shipping. Plus the streaming and so forth. We do not buy a lot online, but did the math and realized $72 investment will save us more. We purchase it simply for the shipping. The streaming was a plus.

My wife checks out the 'deal' sites every day. She says there is always specials there for amazon prime members.

BUT on amazon like on any other site, you should still do your shopping and price-compare. Just because something is from amazon does not mean it is automatically cheaper.

Yeah, Dan, but they've gotten better. For photo equipment, I've always compared Amazon to B&H and B&H was by far cheaper in the past, but now it's evening out. That said, there are still some things that are way more expensive on Amazon. My printer ink is about the same, though, so I save the shipping if I order there now. (Well, it will be a savings when I reach the 99 dollar mark LOL).

not a conspiracy. when they want to send something i can get it here the next day without an issue, even ground. it comes from trenton, i'm pretty close to that. christmas time, it comes right away. and any other time always a week. i only get free shipping.

and yeah, the prices there are good for some things, and plain terrible for others. especially smaller things, usually over priced.

I usually get free shipping from Amazon already because I order enough at one time to qualify for regular free shipping and I am usually not in a hurry. So how does this save a person money?

Love Amazon Prime and the fact that I can get my "prime" goods two days later with no shipping charges. It's well worth the $99 full price. This one-day sale is a pretty good deal.

Thanks Dan, I think everyone here convinced us. Can't argue with $6.00 a mnth. for streaming & purchases.

Marlene Burns

@ann,
prime shipping is 2 day guaranteed. free shipping is usually a week or so and you need to have at least $35 in urchases to qualify for it.
Streaming movies is a big perk for some..it replaces other services like netfliks.

Prime is very dangerous for me late at night with a glass of wine.

Ann Powell

Marlene, I can see how it could be dangerous. I have a large wish list on Amazon already......

I love my PRIME membership! Have saved hundreds. I love the free movies, etc ...I watch on my Kindle. I'm getting some DVDs delivered tomorrow (Sunday!) You can't beat the value and fast delivery.

Ann Powell

OK, I have signed up for it.

"I have a large wish list on Amazon already......"

I don't know if this is true or not, but my wife says it works. So for what it's worth...

As opposed to putting things on a wish list, she puts things in her cart but then does not purchase them. She leaves them there for days. She says that after a time she gets discount and coupon offers for those items.

Dan Carmichael

As a follow-up, not hugely impressed.

Again, we got Prime primarily for free shipping. So any other perks were icing.

That being said, I checked out Prime streaming of movies and TV. When you select only content that is free for Prime subscribers, their content is thin. Except for a few exceptions, and Amazon productions, stuff that is "newish" costs extra. So comparing older to older, Netflix contest is much deeper.

It sucks. Was great the first two months, loaded much faster than Netfilx, then went to hell. None of the movies have volume anymore, just video. Yep, you watch movies without sound. Sound is their but its like someone has the speakers inside a closes box, and amazon is no help. I checked Google, and found this to be a huge problem with many others that paid that price for a bad deal..
Free shipping is great though

Netflix is deeper... but with amazon its an ecosystem your buying into...

1) prime streaming
2) prime music
3) free cloud storage for photos
4) free shipping
5) prime kindle lending library / free kindle books

its a sum of the parts kind of thing... I like it... but in each area there are better options... each for $10 a month or so...

Also anyone with an edu email can use Prime Student... 6 months free and then half cost... I have been using it for several years... I'm not a student but a staff member at a college and they don't seem to care... just have to have an edu email.. Here's a link (there is a referral code in there) : http://www.amazon.com/gp/student/signup/info?ie=UTF8&refcust=TN6BNKKSY64NF3FB6Z2HRZAPVI&ref_type=generic
