Canon 5d

Well I have finally made the jump to full frame and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on user defined setttings ond so on. So far I love the camera, clarity, sharpness and color are great. Thanks in advance for any advice!!!!

I would shoot raw all the time, and just choose the white balance that fits the scene, I know they say in raw it doesn't matter, it does, you can change it when you convert it but sometimes the colors don't act like you want, great lowlight camera by the way!
Wish I would have known you were going full frame I would have made you a screaming deal on a 1 DSL mk ii

White balance at Daylight instead of Auto keeps warm sunset colors.

That's true, shade or cloudy will warm them and blue up the sky...for some reason.

If you have the original 5D, check all images at 100% for dust spots, and learn how to clean a sensor.

Thanks guys
1. I have always cleaned my sensor every few week
2. always shoot raw,
3. when i compose a shot I always shoot in various wb to see which I like best

Terry as far as 1ds, dont think you could beat the deal I got, 5D, neck strap, 16 gig card, 3 batteries, battery grip, and 70-300 f4, 250 cash out of pocket and my T2i and the 5d has less than 2000 shutter count.

The vast majority of my portfolio is from that camera. I think it is the best bang for the buck around. I will probably get another one since I spent my budget for the 6D on inventory for a gallery.

The only reason I was even spending the extra money on the 6 was for astro photography and the weather sealing.

I will post how I use mine when I have more time later tonight.

Has the mirror recall been addressed on yours? If not the mirror may fall off while shooting. I think Canon will fix it free.

Yes its been fixed it was just serviced by canon

White balance is irrelevant if you shoot raw. If you're shooting stuff like your example, shoot raw all the time. And if you have photoshop, my preference is ACR (with at least the 2010 engine) over DPP.

Edit: AND USE GOOD GLASS! The 5D original is capable of creating incredible stuff, but as in almost all photography, it's all about the glass. I shoot with a 5D2 now, and the 5D was converted to IR. But I still run across old raws done with the 5D (normal light) that have jaw-dropping resolution.

Not to be argumentative but yes white balance matters even in raw, that's what we all were taught back in the day, but you can do the tests yourself it does affect raw, it causes color shifts that can't be changed.

How do you like the 70-300 f4 lens so far?

Christy Cox the 70-300 f4 is an awesome lens from I have used it so far, hoping to get out this weekend and shoot some with it, but have to give it up for the 24-85 USM lens also its a great walking around lens with the full frame.
