Prints For Prints Sake

I've had thoughts about this for quite a while and spurred on by comments made on another current site, I'm asking:

How many out there are using "traditional" methods of Art for the sole purpose of selling prints?

Where the "Original" becomes inconsequential

Good Question Roger.

I paint my designs for interior designers but the originals rarely if ever are sold. In fact in most cases I don't want to sell them because they becomes part of my proof of the original works... my design portfolio, sort to speak. Swats of colours and designs done on paper.... for a purpose.

So to answer you question.... the originals are important but they are not where the money comes from.... prints, fabric, wall paper etc....is where the revenue come from.

That's not to say I don't have many original pieces of art for sale, because I do.... and they were not created for the commercial market.

btw, love your vulture :-))

Cheers, Barbara

I have created more " traditional " art than I have sold prints if my sole purpose was to sell prints I have failed miserably...

I'm the opposite, I don't sell prints, at least not yet. I only have my work available as originals on FAA, (which means my account here is really just an online portfolio), I paint with acrylic and pastel. I've thought about making art that would be primarily for the print market but I figure I should be doing better at selling originals first.

Everything is for sale - originals and prints - having said that - I've done "originals" that were never meant for sale - I used to do them with 'magic markers' and had digital copies made - usually just for show - and discarded those "originals" that were usually done on typing/copy paper.
