So far, that's not working for me. I have breakfast between 9-10, late night snack at 9-10, still fat. My downfall is sugar-when I can control that, I will be able to lose.

"My downfall is sugar"

LOL. Yea, well - welcome to the club, Louise. I can sit and eat a pound or more of chocolate in one sitting. Somebody gave us two pounds of See's Candy for Christmas (my all-time favorite), and I had it down in 3 days (except for one piece somebody managed to sneak when I wasn't looking). It's been almost an addiction for life, and I have never been able to conquer it.

I don't need to lose - not even an ounce. But on the other hand - I have no plan to put on any weight - pregnant toothpicks look silly - and that's where any weight gain goes - sadly, not to arms or legs or thighs for me. I eat breakfast at 5 - 5:30 a.m., a banana about 8 -9, lunch - whatever - might be steak or a sandwich, supper is at 4 -4:30 - and snacks before bed (I know - that's not good - but it helps put me to sleep). I don't eat any 'nighshade' family plants (tomatoes, potatoes, peppers, or egg plant) that cause inflammation of my arthritis. I eat all the dairy I want, as well as fowl and their eggs, beef, pork (bacon, ham, porkchops, ribs on occasion), I usually eat Jewish Rye bread, I'm not really fond of cake - but pie - you called my name. I very seldom ever add sugar to anything - but I go through a gallon of honey every month or month and a half. I weigh now what I weighed when I was 18 - and I'm quite a bit further along the road.

I believe sugar is a drug...it is for me anyway. Have always struggled with it. Oh Dan, you had to mention See's candies? My favorite too.

I really wish they would include sugar addicts in those drug rehab centers. I'm not kidding about this either. I think I could use some hardcore counseling, and groups with other sugar addicts.

Joy, I hear ya but when I found out I have hypoglycemia, I switched to salt. i can go through 2 family-sized bags of original Lays potato chips in a weekend. I started a diet today. Can't get into my larger jeans any more. I've "graduated" to elastic waist bands. The chips stop now....

I was born and raised in CA, and weaned on See's chocolates. When I was young, our boy scout troop took a tour of the see's factory. When completed, we got to pig out on bits and broken pieces. I still remember it. It was paradise.

"I've come to believe it's not a matter of 'will power'...it's something going on in the brain"

It is, Joy. I've lived it. It is. About the closest I've ever come to controlling it is with life savers. Although almost impossible to do, letting one slowly melt in the mouth helps one stop eating a half pound of sugar in the same time period.

My wife thinks I'm nuts. But when I get a craving, I will get a spoon and eat directly from the bag of sugar.

No doubt about it. It's a drug

Yup Sugar is a drug! Too much cash involved to regulate it as such. What worked in the past for me was Organic Apple Cider Vinegar. But the key is sticking to a regimen. And finding out what fits your body. I have no problem with carbs and tend to lose weight on a high carb vs low carb diet.

Dan, they say if you can give it up for a couple of weeks, it tastes too sweet after that. I don't know if that works. I know the first time I had a twinkie after about 20 years, it was really gross.

I don't know if I could do it with salt, though. I salt heavily. I am addicted to it. Have developed some severe food sensitivities in the last couple of years, there are a lot of things I've had to give up, but salt (unfortunately) and sugar are not included, although I can resist the sugar because if I have too much, I have an insulin surge and I feel like total crap and could pass out. Thus the switch to salt.

Wouldn't it be nice if we could just funnel the addiction into something positive? Like jogging two miles a day? Although, at this point, I don't think my joints could take that. And the fact that I live in Michigan and the sidewalks are iced over right now kind of leaves that option off the table anyway.
