3 Boobies A Question For Painters

I just started this painting a few days ago with the blue footed boobie bird and woman's boobies, I am trying to make her wearing a sheer shirt so a hint of breasts shows through but not in ones face. The orange is a lot prettier it didn't show up in the cell photo. Any suggestions on getting it more sheer looking with paint, like the breasts are under orange sheer fabric? I am going to let this first layer dry then go back in and work the shirt again. Maybe I am on the right track but not sure :)

A few folds or wrinkles might help it look more like fabric. Make sure you add very light highlights at the highest point of the folds.

you could do what car painters do and use actual fabric and spray through it like a mask. they do that with lace and other things to add texture to it.

A few folds draped as Phyllis said, & then I would take an old nasty scary fan brush and lightly dip the ends in white paint to drag along the lines of the folds to hint of a sheer mesh.

I don't think that image will get much attention at all. Nah....

Leah, next time, when working with sheer clothing, try painting the figure nude and the glaze the clothing over the figure.

Good suggestion phyllis, I know how to do folds but this is a slim tank top and doesn't need a lot of folds here. I guess I should have been clearer. I want the breast to show through like sheer not so much worried about the fabric feel. I think it's jut lightning up some areas around the nipple area but not sure yet till I try. Drew I like your idea, I should have done the nude skin base then glaze the fabric over her, next time I will try that, I like your idea Janine of using the fan brush for fabric feel, will try that also, Mike I am an oil painter and that wouldn't work but an idea you gave me is maybe pressing fabric over my oil paint that would take on the texture sculpturaly ,that's a thought also.

you can do that too. though i'd experiment on a different canvas. maybe a transparent glaze, laid thick, press fabric into that, then peel off slowly. though it wouldn't be in your style, could you use an oil based clear coat, and place a silky like see through material and just like leave it there? give it a 3-d look, though hard to scan in later.

on the same note, using a transparent base, maybe you can just roll it on with a small nappy paint roller.

I've got a title idea: My Eyes Are Up Here.

You could pose in a mirror with similar fabric on to see how the fabric would lay over the skin.

The folds would be coming down at an angle around 5:00 & 8:00 O'clock. If breasts were clocks, or could tell time.

There , Ya go - there's another idea for a new painting. You're welcome.

I was going to suggest the same thing as Jani-put on a tank and look in a mirror to see how it falls. Even though it's supposed to be form--fitting, there will still be creases. A "hint" of breast would not include the entire areola, rather the shape of the nipples.

Go to Google images and type in "see-through top" -- instantly you'll have tons of reference material.

First of all I'd make them bigger. ;) Kidding aside. I would try using more of a translucent wash for the top to make it look like a see through top.

some good ideas to experiment with, I am using a reference and it's clear one can see the whole breast and nipple area through the orange sheer fabric and that's what I want to duplicate. right now it looks like a tank with nipples attached lol.Maybe the wash like Roz said might be the key. .I'll be back at it tomorrow when it dries and try different things like the wash

i wonder if the bird should also be wearing a bikini.

That would upset the balance of humor Mike (for me). When painting a humorous painting, personally I don't think everything should be funny in it, it can make it cheezy, for me it's better to have things play off each other subtly and it' becomes more humorous , it also makes the viewer look at it longer trying to understand it instead it all figured out for them

good thought though :)

Irony is the best humor. Love your Irony Leah!

Thanks Drew :)
