How To Stop The Copying And Selling Of Your Work?

How to STOP the copying and selling of your work?

https://www.facebook.com/groups/726009774147980/

_____________

If you cannot read the text in the above image here is some good advice from Dora Sofia Caputo:

__

I would like to remind all members of the New York Landscapes, Sunsets and Iconic Places FB Group, to make sure that all images posted to this group are either watermarked by FAA (if a member) or have your copyright name in large letters somewhere on the image. This is in order to prevent unauthorized use and reproduction and theft of your work.

_____________

And here is what I had to say:

__

I would have to agree -

To make the copying of images from the New York - New York group not worth the effort I always post images that are 7 cm wide so that anyone that might copy them would not be able to sell them because they are too small.

Selling them is not really an issue, it's using them on websites. The only true protection is not posting them.Takers just crop off the names.

Louise have a little search among the discussions and you will find threads on those here in FAA that have bumped into their work being sold without their permission in different places around the Web.

You post here in FAA Louise.

And if you do a search on watermarks in the discussions, you'll see that there are tons of those as well, and very valid reasons on both sides of the issue. It should be up to the artist to decide whether or not to watermark. Personally, I agree with Louise, and I don't watermark. I'm not terribly concerned about someone snagging my small, low res images and using them in their blogs and websites. There's not much they can do with them beyond that.

The Fear - The Fear April

There are a lot of people who have the fear

But obviously not you

You have to dispel the fear of those who have it - and while I would guess you have not found others selling your work, stories of those that have are enough to turn the air blue.

Here is an observation April:

I have received a fair number of messages and emails on the subject, all from women and all much older than you.

__________

Do you get wise with age?

Geordie,

I dont use water marks either. Not worth it.

Does that mean you go and find older people than me to bury my message as well?

These are just opinions shared in a friendly manner.

HA - HA - HA

Bury your message?

HA - HA - HA

Not worth it?

HA - HA - HA

How much does it cost?

Older people than you?

You might be young at heart but the grey hair is showing through

BTW as well as what?

I'm thoroughly confused, what does age or gender have anything to do with the weight of opinions regarding this issue?

I am not sure if I am missing something and if the comments by OP are in good jest, but they seem out of line and bizarrely insulting.

Watermarks are a very minor deterrence...in fact more of an annoying hindrance that can be dealt with very quickly in Photoshop or similar program. If someone is going to steal your image, they will find a way. It's all part of the risk of posting on line. I am not overly concerned and no longer upload images with watermarks, if someone wants to work with a low res small image they have stolen, then have at it. Besides, isn't imitation the ultimate form of flattery?

It's all personal preference and has been discussed to death in this forum...by a good cross section of ages and genders if that is of import.

Not much

________

I know that both genders get involved in the debate but I just find it strange that I have only ever received messages from one and not the other.

It goes back a little:

And yes I think it was insulting to indicate that I was trying to bury a message

Geordie Gardiner

Yes imitation is form of flattery

But it has nothing to do with mitation

What?

Hello JC,

Please carry on - in my absence

I have a lot of work to be getting on with and might not have the time to visit for a while.

That's what
