Any Dachshund Lovers Out There?

I have a beautiful red dachshund named Pumpkin who is my "adventure girl" and gets into everything. She jumps in the pool, loves the water, and is pretty much the smartest dog I've ever had. Starting on Monday she had difficulty walking and very wobbly on her back legs. IVDD has come knocking on my door. Tomorrow she is going to one of the best neurologists in the country and hopefully will be fine after her $5,000 surgery. EXACTLY what I needed. Ugghhh...

Awww bless! What a sweetie. I'm so sorry to hear this. I know how the bills knock you for six. We are still getting over Hannah's paw bills. Worth it though xx

I had two Dachshunds. A male named Oscar Mayer and my female Vienna Sausage. Oscar and Vi for short of course. We had to put Oscar down last summer at 16 years old due to kidney failure. I still have Vi and she is going on 16 herself.

I had 16 years with my dachshound, Lucy..such a special breed. When she was about 7, I took her in for a routine teeth cleaning. There was a horrible incident in which they left her in recovery with some type of hot air blower thing going to keep her warm. It somehow fell over and literally cooked her skin and nearly killed her. After over a year of skin grafts, 4 major surgeries and a whole lot of heartache, she survived and went on to live a very pampered, full life. Her final procedure was done at Auburn University. I did not have to pay for her treatments, but $5k would have been a bargain..that's just how much I loved her. It wasn't just me, EVERYBODY loved Lucy and her story, her scars just made her more special. I now have a bull terrier puppy (what was I thinking!), but once they steal your heart, you're done, I hope Pumpkin's treatment goes well and please keep us posted.
