aww. Look at you with your emboss and reflect and texture. You're adorable.

Seems to me you know your way around a pixel or two. :)

True sign of a child is his enthusiasm to say, "Lookie, lookie what I can do!"

Yes, I am a child. We all are in any new endeavor.

What are some of YOURS?

I didn't mean to trivialize your efforts!. I can just tell from your portfolio that you are no stranger to digital work, so I was teasing you about being new to text effects. That's where most people start out with digital! You started from the difficult end. :)

Hey, Cynthia D., I took it as a friendly joke. I CAN take a joke, you know. So, think nothing of it. You were not trivializing in the least. You were having fun. So was I.

I have set a goal to learn to do a text effect every day or two. There are some great video tutorials out there for free. Why waste them? I can evolve, using them. And feel free to have fun at my expense anytime.

As I was looking through your portfolio I could see some applications for text effects, especially where you've used otherworldly alphabets. Looking forward to seeing where you go with this!

My otherworldly alphabets, ... WOW, ... I had not thought about applying such effects to these. Thanks for this brilliant idea, C.D.

Now I feel a total obsession coming on, and it's YOUR fault.

That's very cool

Mua hahahaha!

I love when creativity is my fault.

I'm still a novice at text effects as well - guess I started at the wrong end, but I do pretty well with it!

Nice job, Robert!

One day ago, I could NOT do the following:

All it took was one video tutorial, and a simple suggestion by Cynthia D., and ... well, there you go..., I am on another planet of text effects.

A metal print of this would probably be awesome. Get one, put it on your car, and wait for the reactions from law enforcement.(^__^)

NOW you're gettin' somewhere! Love the last one, want to see more subtle color/chrome metal in there, like it's made of some undiscovered element.

Very cool. Lots of fun too. There are several ways to vary your text. A few I use are on YouTube.

Try this link and you'll find hundreds. https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=photoshop+tutorial+making+word+cold+with+icicles++look+frozen

Have fun.

I appreciate your critical eye, Cynthia D., as well as your original germ of an idea - you unknowingly set up an expectation that seems to be driving me. Curse you.(^__^)

Sometimes the simplest comment at the most unsuspected moment can light a spark. This is how I started the whole visual arts venture, so I guess the spark is still there to be ignited in other directions.

Just remember, folks, you witnessed a real live example of it right here. I have evolved in just a couple of days into something that I was not before, just because somebody made a passing comment.

Oh wow! Really nicely done! The metallic effect is great and i love the coloration!

Robert Kernodle

I tried to flesh out your words from a previous comment about making it look like an unknown metal.

... layers upon digital layers of textures and gradients here, ... trial and error, choosing one, rejecting it, choosing another, over and over until it felt right, ... adding an element here, adding an element there, ... nope not enough yet, ... is it too much?, ... does it need more?, ... should I stop now?, ... you know the drill.

Okay, ... I just weeded out No.3 Alien Symphony (displayed earlier in this discussion thread) and deleted it from my portfolio, because I decided that it sucked compared to my later efforts. I have evolved, and this is what happens when you get better and revisit your neophyte efforts.

Cynthia Decker

I say don't take out your early stuff. There may still be things to be learned from it, and you were proud of it when you did it. The college graduate doesn't regret having been a 7th grader. It's part of your path. I have all my early work up, if it was big enough to print. Some of it makes me cringe now, but it earned its place in my gallery. (In the back, sure, but it's there!)

Besides, you never know, some customer may love it and buy it!

Robert Kernodle

A valid point, Cynthia D., but the piece that I deleted had gross technical flaws like sloppy edges from not being able to make the colors stand out on a solid background, so that when transparency was added, a cloudy film remained behind, ... all jagged and just unbearable, given that I can now do so much better. So, I must choose to ignore your advice, respectfully.

Here is another variation on 2015 Alien Symphony:

... told you I had an obsession coming on, and, here you have it illustrated in full force.

Somebody help me!

I can't stop. I am addicted.

The first step is admitting that you have a problem. (^__^)

Interesting ............. two images that I deleted have different remnants in this discussion thread: One that I updated with a new image (Alien License Plate) now does NOT appear here at all, and the other that I TOTALLY deleted still remains in view (No. 3 Alien Symphony).
