Hi everybody
I was wondering how can I get into collections listings? What is the secret?

Thank you in advance,

The staff selects the work. Nothing you can do but sell!

you can't. staff picked only. i wish it wasn't there because it's the topic of the day and covers the screen almost constantly. there are no secrets about it. partly its based on how well you sell - as far as i know.

Send the office staff a box of donuts?

I've got other ideas about what to send! ...but I'd be sent off.

So you did notice them? Right!

Distracting? Right !

Thank you guys! I thought first it was something optimization related...

How do we get them to drop this whole collections idea? Sales are down, visits are off and staff picks obviously aren't necessarily collectors picks. This is more and more like Red Bubble but it's not working. Why mess with a good thing? Surely FAA has followed the decline in traffic and ranking.

They have been on this site for years. Almost from when it opened. They are not going away

Sales are down? Why didn't anyone tell me?

They are not down. They are up. Some artists sales are right up and they are not in the collections

Sales site wide are NOT down. They continue to grow at a brisk pace.

Jinx, typing at the same time as Abbie.

Oh, my sales continue to rise and I am not in any collections.

but they were never in the way before. can they go back to where they were hiding? if buyers do a search in collections, they won't find anything at all. because its not connected to the main search. right now if my mouse strays a bit, it fills the entire screen with that box.

sales are slower right now because i think tax stuff is arriving and xmas bills are coming in. but soon i think the decorators start their thing and then other stuff will sell more. i am selling though i had a 2 day slump, and they are all smalls.

Collections are some peoples favorite thing to blame their problems on. It ranks up there with "the search is weighted against me waaaah" and "bots are sneaking through the site stealing my art.".

I was referring to site traffic which according to Alexis is down considerably and fellow artists who have mentioned it elsewhere. For me personally my sales were never UP all that much but they are consistent. I just agree with Mike that the collections the way they are are intrusive and since they are staff picked and not based on known criteria, they would seem to reduce the odds of my work being seen regardless of how carefully I keyword, sponsor pages, etc. I am not claiming to have any problems, Joshua, and could certainly find other reasons for a lack of booming success than collections. But the truth is if a buyer searches collections for my work, or seascapes etc. they won't find me in any of those ways.

Ah, so VISITS are down not SALES.

Well if sales are up, visits down, that can only mean one thing, I need a sale.

I feel buried. I feel as though I should be painting a picture with myself buried by miles of naked artist bodies with a few super already wealthy non talented individuals who are living off the royalties from previous artists, standing on top digging in their heels.....

It would be soooo nice if they would publish their statistics. Say like the top 90% of sales and all sales over $1,000 a month in total come from 5 individuals, or even list without dollar figures, the top 10 in sales each month. That would be too transparent though, right?

I think the phrase "...a few super already wealthy non talented individuals who are living off the royalties from previous artists, standing on top digging in their heels...." is a bit heavy-handed to say the least.

People should stop blaming others for their lack of sales. The way to sell art on the web is to promote it, then promote again and promote it some more to draw in potential buyers. It's boring and tedious but it works, assuming there is a market for the particular art out there somewhere on the web.

FAA is not a collective, it's a privately run commercial web site and of course Sean is not going to publish sales figures for individual artists, or the ratio or where sales come from. Can you name another commercial site that does this so that their competitors can evaluate how to compete?

If I was one of those people, and I am not, and they did that, they would have a paper from my lawyer on their desk before sunrise of the following day.

And even if you had that information, It would be worthless to you as far as creating sales for yourself.

Nothing hinders your own sales like worrying to much about everyone else's. Not to mention it is none of your business what any one else is doing.

For the record, I might add, I am well over double the same period last year at this time. So I don't see where sales are down.
