A Pillow Suggestion

I would like to see us (the artist) to be able to lock the view presented to the customer. I guess some will figure out that they can move the image around but how many will look at a pillow and see an image well off the pillow instead of centered where it should be.

Some of mine would be great IF I could go in and tweek the image one way or the other...

and, fairy godmother - I'd like to limit the strata my images are printed on - as well as what part of the image shows up on a card. The same is probably true of putting them on smart phone cases.

I don't know about that.

I have only sold two billows but I have sold a few dozen phone cases and about half of them are aligning the image totally different they the way I would If I could "fix" the image so it can not be adjusted.

I don't think I would do that myself. But if it could be made an option for each member.... go for it.

That's my only gripe...Yup that would be great!!! more than half my stuff does not look right until adjusted...I go back and forth between offering those images on the other products or not. Right now I am thinking of going though all my images and removing those options for the ones that don't look right as is. That is a lot but I figure if a potential customer sees weird looking cases, cards, etc. they sure won't bother to look for more.

It would sure be nice to set the image and if the customer wanted to override that they could...we artists and Faa would probably sell more.

Also I seriously doubt that any customer will take the time to adjust an image that they didn't like right off the bat. I wouldn't ...I would just keep looking and if I found a lot of weird stuff then I would look elsewhere. Seems like a no brainer to me. I don't do programming so maybe the idea is impossible.

I wanted to market those products but that lack of option made it frustrating,

Val

I'd like to have pillows with fringe.

Edit your images SPECIFICALLY for the products on which you want them printed. Make pillow galleries and phone galleries and wall art galleries. Come on, do the work.

Tough love. You're welcome.

Sorry, you need to upload the image you want especially if you need it locked. They will not be changed at this time

:( Thanks Abbie...that is good to know!

LOL Robert! I am definitely lazy about it.

I agree. That's a shame that they won't change this. I don't think the image should be locked because the buyer may want to move the image, but I do wish we could adjust the image to show what we feel is the best layout.

I'd like to have a gigantic printer to control my entire stream from photographing, to editing, to printing to shipping. But I don't, so I try and accept that there are parts of the process I can't control. OF course, I can control what happens with pillows. I don't offer them for 99% of my work.

Why don't you create a gallery specially for pillows and crop the image to make it fit on the pillow the way you see it? I have created a gallery for phone cases and from ad images specially sized for cases.

@Robert K. I like the idea of specific galleries but (and I'm a tech kind of guy) I haven't been able to grab just pillows and have a gallery of pillows show up? If you want to provide a good how-to of making this happen and where it will show up, I will test it out. (I used to be called on to break any software process so I'm a stickler for a good UI) (user interface)

@Iris did you do this on your website? Which is the only way I can see doing it. I have a FAA full page widget on my website but it shows only what FAA shows and I haven't seen anyway to change what FAA shows. At least nothing that remains after I leave the page.

I've seen people refer to grabbing the gallery number from the url but I don't see a way to use this on FAA or in the Widget on my Website. I could quite easily grab screen shots of my pillows the way I want them and create a gallery on my website in wordpress. Each image when clicked on would take them to the pillow landing page...

If you are referring to that then as some have said easypeasy... (who came up with that?) :-)

And thanks @Abbie. I knew it would be impossible but it never hurts to ask and the way you replied, then maybe in the future... I figure you'll add this to the growing wishlist of everything we want FAA to be...

I'd be happy just to choose horizontal or vertical product pics for phone cases! 'The system' is getting mine wrong, most of the time.

Jeff F.,

What I think you might want in terms of a pillow gallery is NOT a pre-made thing. It's simpler than this.

For example, just create a gallery called PILLOWS, and in the gallery description, emphasize that the images are configured precisely for pillows, ... BUT you can also order wall hangings with them too. Then list your square images there.

With regard to dimensions of Pillows, Cases, and Cards the ratios of products are set by FAA or the vendor creating the product. If the artist is provided with the ratio (n x n or n x m) there should be no problem with product prospective unless the printer makes an error which I have seen recently with card orders.
Specific galleries for all types of product would be nice in PDF, GIF, or PSD format. I am seeing some nice display applications in some group image posts that would be usable on the web. I am assuming they are being downloaded from FAA and applied to the file being used by the artist.
Abby, the idea of creating needle point in a larger array of dimensions is intriguing at least to me.

I think that's a very good idea, Jeff.

I've been pleasantly surprised by the clever ways my cell phone buyers have cropped my images and personalized their purchases.

You could create a gallery with images already cropped for pillows if its a concern. Kind of hard with the square and rectangle options though.

I've made a gallery of images that I think would work as pillows, but still need to go back and cull some out of there. In the gallery description above the images, I've also added directions (somewhat simplified) on how to use the cursor and move images up/down, left/right, in order to assist the customer in "fitting" images to the pillow shapes. The majority of mine do better on the 14x20 size pillow, as I have hardly any square images, but some landscape oriented images can work in the square format....with a bit of adjusting using the cursor.

Robert Kernodle is right. Do the work. LOL I did have some square images that naturally work for the pillows, but the rectangular ones don't work unless they are cropped, and I would rather control the output, than the customer, because it is my art. I went in and re-cropped for the square images, and have done 30 or so, to start, and put them in their own specific gallery. If you have photoshop or something like it, it really isn't that hard to do. It just takes some effort and time. I am doing this art business of mine, full time, so it's all in the 40-50 hour weeks I put in. I have sold 5 of them from there. Les

I have only chosen some that would adapt to the pillow sizing & put them in a gallery. Others do not adapt well and are not for pillows. Isabella has a point, if I understand correctly, to resize and re-enter art you want to fit to the pillow sizing. More work on the artist's part to add under a new(square) size, but easier for the viewer to see and know it will be right.

I have a question about a related issue...

Is there any way to get it to stay the way you like it when you post it in a link? It's maddening to post a FB link to a pillow that doesn't show it the way you want it to. Even if you shift the image within the pillow, the URL doesn't reflect that when you post it. Is there another way to do it?

Cynthia Decker

Valerie, can you adjust the image on the pillow and then take a screenshot? You could then crop the screenshot to just the pillow and share that with the link to the actual item here on FAA. That's how I do it.

Valerie Reeves

Thanks, Cynthia, I will try that.
