The Final Product Size Design Decision

Prompted by current running threads, I got thinking.

First, with traditional art,( painting in particular),a conscious decision is made right off the bat...That being the size of the final product, the Size of the Actual Canvas.

And I contend that the painting to follow is created with that size in mind...

Now with photography and digital art, the final product, is a result of a print...And depending on the DPI ,that print can any one of a number of different sizes offered..

I am well aware that some members here on FAA, definitely have an opinion on what the optimum size for each or their individual pieces should be.(and not necessarily the largest).

But, now for the rest of us, here in this cyber universe, do you have a particular size in mind when creating your art?

That's a really good question...Having worked with traditional mediums until a few years ago the size of an image was always my first thought. Now doing digital I find it still is...in my mind I always have an idea where I would hang a piece and how big I want it to be. That said I have been leaving all size options open but sometimes I think I shouldn't...can't make up my mind about this. I also find when viewing others work a size usually pops into my head...or at least I think how I would like to view it. Sometimes small sometimes very large.

Almost always. And I don't think twice about limiting available sizes, when I choose. I usually leave a decent range of sizes to choose from, but am especially likely to cut the smaller sizes, where too much detail might be lost.
