Views From New York, Russian Federation, Kevelaer - Germany, Beverley Hills - Ca- What Are These?

For months and months I have been getting a lot of views from New York, Russian Federation, Kevelaer - Germany, and Beverley Hills - CA. Once I heard they might be spoofed ISP addresses. What I don't know is why? Does anyone else get these and know what the nature of the views are? Thanks!!

They're likely 'bots' - web crawlers that index your work, keywords, galleries, etc., so they show up in search engines. Bots are your friend. There is a whole host of locations, depending on which company or search engine is doing the crawling. Run a search for 'bot' in the Discussion search box--you'll see some familiar locations. That said, people do live in those places, so they aren't always bots.

Laura;

Some of these are bots. They go out and find web content and report back to Google and other search engines. Of course, there are also real people in tese places, especially Beverly Hill. I recently got a comment from a gyu in "Moscov -- Russian Federation" and until then, I thought they were all bots.

I've been using Pinterest more of late. Every time I pin something from my FAA gallery the bots index it within seconds. There are bad bots and good bots. These are good bots.

New York and Moskow both have bots but the cities are big enough to get real visitors. I am from Germany and never got a visit from Kevelaer. I doubt that it is a bot. Beverly Hills is the crawler of bing the search engine of Microsoft.

I too got comments from "Moscov- Russian Federation" a nice comment about one of my images, and I comment his. I thought they were bots, some are and some are not.

Thanks everyone for your replies! I thought that it was a little odd to have so many "views" from the same areas. Now I know. Bots!...probably. Great to know the art is indexed.
