Lytro Light Field Infinite Focus Digital Camera

Sale - one day only 12/11/2014

I read about this camera long ago, and it doesn't interest me. But perhaps somebody else. Might be a unique gift for somebody. Might also be fun to play with.
I'm posting here because the sale price is actually good.
Sale price of $70 / $100 and on Amazon $178 / $223 for similar models.

From what I understand the effect only works online with software? Seems like a gimmack. The camera takes an image with a high depth of field and then the software allows you to choose the focal point and blurs the rest?

Dan,

I think this is the original Lytro LFC with a very small resolution - as I remember, only 1MP which makes it impractical for any enlargements.
The newer Illum model is more advanced, but even so, the resolution still lags behind the other cameras. Maybe the next version will be more useable.

Its true, the illum captures a light-field which enables
step-focusing in-camera so that eventually the
computer could pull every foreground element,
mid-ground and background into one sharply
focused whole... but 1Mb res - uh-uh :(
