Another Hong Kong Rip Off Of Faa Artists On Amazon.

Just went to Amazon, put in my name and found some Hong Kong outfit called "HAHAHACASE" selling art from FAA artists on pillows.

Check to see if they have ripped off your work.

They seem to have grabbed pillow case and phone cases from online artists. The store just opened.

Thanks Dan. Me thinks Amazon shut down them down, they changed names and are back again.

Wow, 100% cotton and hand made only $19!

Sure when they don't have to pay for the artwork. Amazing how they keep the artist's name - makes it easier to find.

Yes yes yes...found 6 of mine there yesterday and 11 of my daughters there this morning. I emailed in my DMCA yesterday and my 6 have been removed. Just mailed in the DMCA for the daughter. Sigh. It's never ending. We told Amazon in our suggestion letter we sent in that until some better control and changes are made in vetting these "china" and "hong kong" sellers, we wouldn't be shopping there. We cannot in good conscience give our hard earned money to a company that continually allows sellers to put up stolen art and designs. (And they COULD stop it if they wanted to by vetting these people thoroughly before allowing their shops to go "live" - It's not difficult at all to determine most of the thieves because they're lifting the actual product image from legit sites such as FAA and Society6) It's our first Christmas season we haven't bought anything on Amazon. Was hard to do, and is sort of like trying to break an addiction, but we've managed! :)

Good for you Jai!

Unfortunately we have to make it a pain for Amazon to do business with these crooks before they realize its not worth it.

Exactly Edward. The best way to get a company to listen is to hit them in their pocketbook. Between 4 of us here, we spend thousands per year on Amazon. Most of my camera equipment was bought there. I know our measley $$ we spend with them is nothing in the scheme of things. But if others get tired of it and elect to stop shopping there as well, it will add up in the long run and then maybe they will listen.

even if a 100 people stopped, they would not notice. as of late i've been sending in mail about reviewing who they allow to sell and requirements for the other companies. they have far too many unregulated chinese companies there. they send things without a packing slip, you have no idea who sent it. i had a problem with one order where they sent the wrong things and i don't have any paperwork for amazon to do anything about it. i'm still waiting for another package.

with enough frustrated customers i think amazon will simply make is stricter to get a store there. if they make it too easy, any old crook can get in.

Rather sad state of affairs when they allow one of their vendors to directly rip off another one of their vendors. Even down to the images used to sell.

Response from Amazon:

.........

In order to ensure that we only remove the sellers and titles that you are completely sure are infringing your rights, we need you to provide following additional information:

1. A list of every third party seller separately for each title that you truly believe has illegally manufactured, re-copied, or otherwise unlawfully obtained your copyrighted material;

2. A statement by you that you have a good-faith belief that the disputed use is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law;

3. A statement by you, made under penalty of perjury, that the above information in your notice is accurate and that you are the copyright owner or authorized to act on the copyright owner's behalf.

We do not need you to provide an additional signature as long as you send the above information from this e-mail address.
..........

We'll see what happens next.

Some of the places we sell online seem to add affiliates at the drop of a hat --- so how can we tell if some of these amazon sellers are not affiliates of one of out legitimate sites? I found mine on amazon from a store called Hito, which is listed as "just launched". I am pretty sure the only place I am selling the design is from FAA. Any other find themselves there?

Why doesn't FAA protect our work better? I am relatively new to this site and I don't understand why they allow photos to be taken or downloaded. How does this all work????

UP, no website can protect images. There are a number of ways to easily save any image on the web. Anything anyone can see on their screen is saved somewhere on their computer. However, all of the ones from FAA are low-rez previews, not your hi-rez files.

The way it works is in order to sell your work there has to be an image that can be seen. In the case of FAA that image is 900 pixels on the long side and watermarked if you want. There is no way to stop someone from taking that so you accept that risk when you sell here. FAA does not "allow" it. It's not legal. People just do it. It's up to you to find the infringements and do something about it. In any case there is never a file larger than 900 pixels being taken ( to my knowledge) as that is all that is ever displayed and vulnerable to being copied from her or Google. Keep in mind a larger file can be made from a print.

When you look at an image online it is already on your computer. Saving it has always been a fairly easy thing to do. The disabling of the right click menu on Windows does little to nothing to prevent copying. That is just basic to computers and not something that anyone can protect you from.
To the best of my knowledge the high resolution file you upload has never been available to anyone nor hacked by anyone.

Hi!
I logged on the .pixels.com website yesterday and lo and behold a www.paul_otoole.com is tabbed against my name! Never heard of of him or them! Why is FAA and Pixels.com allowing this to happen!
