How To Find Monetary Value For Found Parts Artwork? Pic Included.

Hi,

My dad has a piece of artwork, which my grandmother used to own. The artwork is probably from the 50s. It's made out of found parts, such as a spark plug, buttons and a spam can lid handle.

I'm trying to figure out if there's some sort of monetary value to it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Do I just guess a number and put it on eBay....:0)

Thanks,
Phil

I don't know but the steampunk genre would love to get their hands on this piece.

Haha...Yeah, so I should gently set the artwork in the middle of a Steampunk convention...and try to get out of there with all of my limbs intact...:0)

you would have to look up the piece or things like it and see what they go for. i have seen art like that though.

Thanks Mike!

I'll try to find some art similar to it. Does anyone know what kind of art this is? I'll start plugging in some keywords and see what comes up. I did do a Google image search earlier, but it only came up with similar colored images, not similar pieces of artwork...haha.

Phil, maybe "vintage three dimensional wall art", or something along that line. Very cool work.

check out artprize.org, its a huge international art show that has many artists that make things like this. This type of art has been very popular for the past three years, but that can change.

Thanks guys!

Repurpose art, scrap metal art & metal art seem to give good search results on google, ebay & artprize.org. Actually artprize has some great art - I've never seen that website before.

Thanks again!

If anyone is interested here's some cool scrap metal art. They make me want to start building something Steampunk...:0)

It was very popular in the 50's...I recall lots of people having them in their homes.....as far as value goes, probably mostly sentimental.
Ebay pricing ranges $130-$200....but those are the asking prices...not sure anyone is getting them.

Haha...thanks Marlene. I think I'm going to call it 50s Steampunk...:0)

My first thought is that it may be what was called "Hobo Art" from the late 40's and 50's. Out of work men who became hobo's created many beautiful pieces using whatever scraps they could find. Anything they could make a few dollars on.

Thanks Gracie! To me it will be 50s Hobo Steampunk Art...:0)

We had a couple of those types of pieces growing up. Bought at bazaars in Germany in the 70s.

Thanks Edward. Interesting about buying these types of artwork at German bazaars.
