Is There A Fix For Great Pieces Of Art That Make Horrible Thumbnails

Here are two examples of some of my paintings that make horrible thumbnails. Is there any fix for this problem?

This piece won a Best In Show award, yet has been overlooked here at FAA because, I believe, of the terrible thumbnail:

I consider this to be one of my best paintings this year and it makes an equally horrible thumbnail and subsequently, has been overlooked.

Jim, just edit and add the images again To your post. I thought you had just doubled up.. Sorry

There is a huge difference between seeing art live and online. Especially painting where you can't experience the thickness of the paint. Also seeing something mounted on wall, full size is always going to be better that looking at a small digital file.

I also think awards are rather meaningless when it comes to selling online. People have a huge array of choices.

Thanks Edward. What you say, is or course true. However, what I'm concerned with here is not my digital file of the painting, but the correction (if there is one) of pointless THUMBNAILS that cuts off the top and bottom of a piece, and in these two examples, leave the figures without their heads.

Jim, what about you make small, but whole, files for FAA to use as the thumb....just like the small-enough avatar size . And ask FAA to use your files for the thumbs?

That's an excellent idea, Vivian. I had not thought that might be possible.

Um, Jim, maybe FAA won't want to set a precedent.....perhaps ask Abbie or Sean off forum?......a "special" request........

I don't know whether the following is a good idea or not.

How about putting the images of your very fine paintings on a square photoshop canvas format, with white sides for vertical paintings and white tops and bottoms for horizontal paintings?

And maybe those square format versions can be linked to the original postings.

I paint in squares almost always...they make great thumbnails but when it's not in a square, the thumbnail isn't just awful, it is just wrong.

R Allen, If I understand what you're suggesting correctly, then the image would print with the white stripe
Marlene, painting only in a square format, would not be acceptable to those who buy my original paintings. It would also bore me to tears.

I probably don't know what I'm talking about.

I thought that maybe you have secondary AW pages, just for the thumbnails,(to bring the buyers in),that links to the primary pages , without the white sides or tops and bottoms for the prints..
