you have to flip it in your computer first, then upload it.

Edit it to the way you want it in image editing program and then save it that way and then upload.

"Mike, Mike, Mike!" he murmured understandingly, graciously waving his flagella.

(With apologies to Rudyard Kipling's mama jaguar in "Just So Stories" - in his armadillo origin story.)

Oh. I thought you wanted him to turn your computer on it's side.

"Greg, Greg, Greg!" howled the angry crowd, graciously waving their torches and pitchforks.

The real answer is that unfortunately, there are more than one ways that software can designate the orientation of an image. Your software is not entirely thorough at setting both consistently. You can easily rotate the image in your windows browser, or using other software. Naturally, you can check the result on FAA to see if the upload files are shown properly. But Explorer has the ability to browse, view, and rotate in a way that FAA will recognize.

Too bad we are all not mind readers. Just a few more words of explanation by the OP could result in better answers.

I assume you're talking composition of a picture/photo.

Are you talking photos? Changing the orientation AFTER the pic is shot? If so, rarely ever.

If you're talking about while taking photos, I often shoot both. Many photo editors, when asked "Horizontal or Vertical?" will answer YES!

Or if you're question is literal, just turn your camera sideways. ( I assume you're talking Landscape vs. Vertical)

Or how do you add a landscape to your portfolio?

Confusing question is confusing.

he just wants the image to be right side up when he uploads here, because windows shows the image in the correct position, but the site isn't orientation aware.

You got THAT from his question?

I gave the answer after joking around, previously. The answer is his software isn't handling it properly.
This can be corrected with most any image browser that can rotate an image. Windows explorer should easily fix this, as it has that capability.
The technical issue is that a JPG's orientation can be designated more than one way, and better software will make sure that all methods are in agreement.
What image editor do you use?

However, you should be able to correct it with software you already have, other than you image editor.

Most software does it without asking. Most cameras automatically set the orientation also. The camera sets a bit and the software reads the orientation bit and renders it on screen correctly.
