Your Best Foot Forward, Duh! ;)

I've been running a little promo (details on my AW blog) and also tweaking my pricing a little more, etc.

While I've been watching via Google analytics live, how potential buyers visit my AW site, they don't tend to "search" for anything. My assumption that they did (because that's how I'd shop) was completely wrong. Instead, they tend to pick one or two of my gallery collections, then then click through pages. And they're typically only good for about 3 -5 pages before they either go to another gallery, buy something, or leave the site.

Here's the kicker... and, I'm sure it's plenty obvious to everyone except for me, but I didn't have my best work front and center. I've got a very large library of over 1700 images to date, and there's no way anyone is going to browse through more than about 60 images tops. And that's if you're lucky! So, I've spent the last 5hrs going through every gallery and every page, to push the position order of all the strongest images to land inside the first 60 images, with the most focus on that first 30 images to make sure that in the little bit of time they'll spend potentially buying from me, they'll at least see my best stuff first.

I know, DUH! Right?! ;)

Duh.....especially now that your first 6 are below every image on your AW
Happy Thanksgiving Day, Skip!

Yeah, I need to do that again, Skip. When I add new stuff, I leave it up front for a couple of weeks to get whatever comments I'm going to get, then I shuffle my best images back to the front of the line.

Gotta edit the galleries again, though. I need to have that gallery icon as the first image in the gallery, and I sometimes slack off on moving those. Plus I never have put what I consider my strongest stuff at the beginning of the gallery images. You just gave me something to do tonight while I'm watching the hockey game. Since I'm going somewhere else for Thanksgiving, I don't have to go home from work and clean my house or stuff any birds....

Marly, (is ok if I call you Marly?) ;)

I'm not sure what you mean by this "Now that your first 6 are below every image on your AW"

And happy turkey day to you too!

Good point, Marlene. If you don't shuffle your best images to the first six slots in your Image view, those will show the latest that you have uploaded. I've seen other members moving their best up to those positions, but I'm going to leave it for now. I'd prefer to have my most recent appear first, because I always like my new stuff best anyway.

I agree with you Skip, that your best in each gallery should be shown first. I've tried to do this as I go along. But also remember that if someone likes your Gallery logo, make sure that is the first image that appears, or they'll have to go hunting for it and may give up if it's not right there.

Mary, putting the gallery logo image first isn't a bad idea. Thought I was done and could get back to coffee... back t the gallery edit first. ;)

Please call me Marlee...that's what I go by in real life.
Look at one of your image pages....right below it there is now your first 6 images...makes sure you want those particular 6 shown on every page, cuz that's what you will get!
I always used to leave up my most recent 'til I integrated, on my private website, the widget that shows the first 16....I keep it on my home page and want the best of the best showing at all times.

Every-time I upload, I go back and move it so my top 6 are always on the bottom squares...

Yeah, Skip, I'll sometimes look at someone's gallery logo and think "wow, that's a great image", so I go into the gallery to look at it closer and it's not at the front, it's way at the back, or it's even something they have deleted entirely and not there! It irritates me, so I try to shuffle the logo to the front every time I add stuff to the gallery.

Same here, Mary. I try to keep the gallery logo at the top row at least, just in case someone else feels the same as I do :)

Some of the same duh's here, Skip, especially the part about moving stuff in individual galleries. As for logo images, I try to switch them out at least monthly. I do try to pick what I consider to be a good image, but it's not necessarily the one I think is my best. The reason for that is when I check on my stuff in Google and Bing and other image searches, I find the gallery logo relatively frequently, so I assume the search bots or whatever they are called see those more easily. Since I want to get as many of my images as possible out there, I switch them out every so often. Maybe I'm deluding myself, though.

Good Plan, Skip. Progress!

Not unlike the FAA "method".....best stuff forward.....accent the best sellers!

Marlee, oh.. I see what you mean now. Only I don't see the next 6 at the bottom via my AW site. Only via the FAA site.

I use the gallery display first rather than the flowed images. And, pick a gallery logo that's either a popular image, or one that just looks better as an icon logo... and logos that collectively look diverse when viewed together.

Vivian, yeah... I was going to say that about FAA "method"... but didn't like the taste of crow. ;)

i can't bother myself. each new upload bumps the others down. the best seller may not be what they are looking for. many have have gotten to the page from google. but pay attention to what galleries they are looking at first. and put those galleries in the front. and then ask yourself why they might have been chosen. like was it the color?

Well....it works for FAA..............nice bottom line $$$$$$$$.........

Mike, at least for me... this is ONLY pertaining to a promo where you're trying to drive potential buyers to your AW site. I'm looking at their browsing patterns and it doesn't look like they're using color or the search at all. Mostly just starting in with the category they're most interested in.

I think if they see stuff they like right off the bat, your chances are better they'll explore a little more.

I'm not putting just the best sellers up front. I'm putting a combination of images that have either sold, or have almost sold in person, or have been frequently inquired about, or garner more love in social media via shares or likes.

Mostly favoring the ones that actually sold, but not exclusively. Mixing in what I consider good, and what has been popular in other streams.

I don't always put my gallery logo in the first position, but like to have it within the first few rows. I want potential buyers to notice a few of my other images, while making their way to the logo.
