Binaural recording can be really cool for its sense of depth and envelopment by the sound. Much better than regular stereo.

Sorry but this sounds just like a mouse I had in my bedroom that came out at night. Rattling around and in the closet and who knows what it was chewing on.
My remedy for insomnia is Coast to Coast Am radio show. Works for me.

I dont have headphones, but my Bose multimedia speakers did the job.

I like the multi-channel ASMR audio below. If you want to skip the text at the beginning, the sounds begin around 1:25 into it. Whispering puts me over the edge.

Although interesting, maybe I'm missing something, but these sounds aren't going to do it for me either. I was lately thinking of getting some sort of white noise machine but those sounds aren't close to what I had in mind...seems like they would keep me awake.

Jim I had sort of the same feeling...like one of the dogs got into something.

Everyone is affected by ASMR. You just have to find you the sound that works best for you. White noise for some. Specific sounds for the others. I shared the ones that affect me. Maybe finding the one that works for you, you can share? It might help someone who is an insomniac. ASMR also triggers a part of the brain that soothes anxiety for those like me that struggle with that as well. Thats so funny that it makes some folks have to pee.. lol..

I was sitting in the waiting area at the Bureau of Motor Vehicles when I was overwhelmed by ASMR. I realized that it was caused mainly by people whispering to each other. There was no background music, so all I could hear was whispering and the faint shuffling of paper. I was kinda bummed when they called my number. I thought, "Maybe I should hang out at the BMV more often." ;P I suppose it sounds strange to anyone who hasn't experienced it.

Thanks for the interesting thread Melissa. The ocean sounds are more for me. I think I still have a cassette tape of these. Interesting how what is chaotic and disturbing to some is relaxing to others. It should not be surprising with all the diverse tastes in music, even instrumental, when you take lyrics off the board. I wonder if tastes in music follow or coincide with the different sounds.

The clickety-clack of those pencils is anything but relaxing, making me think of James Herbert's 'Rats' trilogy, more than anything else! ;-)

For endless combinations of relaxation and brain-resetting, I much prefer mynoise.net -- though I haven't yet found any ambient sounds (or anything else) that can not only help put me to sleep, but help keep me asleep. Aye, there's the rub!
