My Mom was a pilot in the 1940's. She was a true trailblazer and broke the gender barrier. She will always be a hero to me. :-)

Hi Erma,
What memories you just brought back! My grandfather was a bomber pilot before I was born...I don't know if he was a hero then but later he was to me. A test pilot and director of flight operations, he would pick me up once a week when I was very young, to go for ice cream... or to visit a small local zoo...at least that was what we told my mother...sometimes we would do that...but sometimes we would go to his job. He would take me to the airfield and watch them test the jets. I still remember when he decided I was either big enough or more likely that I could keep a secret and would take me right up to the fence along the runway and watch those jets scream by. They mostly tested fighter jets and it was always a thrill to hear that boom when they broke the sound barrier...haven't heard that in many years. Someday, he said, he would teach me to fly them. Never happened...he died not many years after that.

I recognize your Tuskegee Airmen...I have heard many stories of them from my own father.

Erma, do you intend to sell prints for this image? I couldn't find it on your page.

WHAT A DELIGHTFUL ANTIQUE

That's wonderful. I am sure you are very proud. I hope that you are passing the wonderful memories down to the younger members in your family to keep the history alive as I do with the pictures of my former husband. You will see them from as i upload pictures I've painted of his experiences as a Documented Original Tuskegee Airman, past and present. When the Army and the Air Force separated, he became the first Black pilot the Air Force trained.

Grandfathers are great Grandbaby spoilers! I sincerely hope that you are passing your wonderful experiences on to the younger generations in your family as I do when I paint pictures of my husband's experiences both past and present to the younger members of our family. from time to time I will up load them to Fine Art in America. watch for them

That picture came out of FAA's files. I did not paint it. From time to time, I will post paintings of the DOTA's around planes. Watch for them.

Be looking forward to hearing from him.

what a wonderful antique!! I am sure you get much pleasure from it.
