Black Friday?

Hearing a lot about Black friday, is there anything we need to do to prepare for it, like reduce prices to sell our art on that day or maybe just do a little rain dance around the furniture.

Why? Is art suddenly a commodity product sold on price like a TV?

i haven't planned on doing anything. mistake? who knows. art should be a higher price. its not like i'm trying to clear inventory. though technically cyber monday is our time. everyone is getting trampled on friday.

Well I have a 15% discount code on my artist website and the two sales I had last week... neither used the code so they came in from other than my artist webpage... go figure...

I just reduced ALL of JC's photos, to 50%, hope that's alright..................

Rich

I guess I wouldn't tell JC right away,sorta a surprise thing...........

Actually, 50% off would be fine for one day if it worked.

It does not.

Black Friday is a brick and mortar store event. If you get sales at all it is usually after people are done in the stores.

Now that the AW and FAA profile pics are different... it would be an interesting experiment to put the code in the profile picture area of the AW - easily seen. If anyone uses it, you know they used your AW to purchase from.... hmmm

I've had a 30% sale going on that has not produced more sales or views! In hanging stuff on their wall, people typically buy what they like. There had been on visitor coming from a small town here in SC that I thought might be compelled to finish a deal, but they stopped coming.

I was in NYC this weekend and the street vendors were all selling photos for $5 in front of stores selling $5,000 handbags. Where are you setting your market? To sell against Walmart? Better figure out where your volume is going to come from.

Thinking....One of the disadvantages we have here is the artwork is not sitting on a shelf. People are so used to Amazon who gets you things within two days. It take about a week to receive a box of cards from FAA. So when it comes to last minute Christmas gifts, we're not competing.

I think it's a great idea! It would make FAA very profitable during the holidays.

Some of my best railroad shooting has been on Black Friday as the railroads, both big and small, get back to work after a rare day off. I am very lucky to have married a woman who hates shopping more than I do, so we'll pack the kids off in the car and go anywhere but a retail place. Grocery stores are nice to visit because most people have left overs. We can get our snacks for the day there and avoid the stupidity elsewhere.

That sounds like my husband and I, Joseph. We hate shopping, so we do the same as you and then go hiking in the snow somewhere.

Black Friday is the day you raise prices on here.

I'm not planning to discount my work. I've tried discount codes over the past few years at different times throughout the year, and they really don't generate the sales I'd like. I started to feel that if I periodically offer discounts, people on my mailing list will always be waiting for a discount instead of buying at full price.

The bulk of my sales seem to come from somewhere other than where I advertise my discount codes anyway, since they often go un-used.

People have limited wall space to its kind of foolish to run a "lost leader" type sale. They pick up the bargain and then are done. Now free shipping would be a good promotion. I doubt that will happen.

Yes after deliberating what to do i decided to stick with a little dance around the furniture, Probably a lot less stressful than reducing prices. Happy selling everyone!

"Now free shipping would be a good promotion...."

Edward, there was free shipping on cards recently, and I even sent out tweets about it, but I checked a few minutes ago, and it's no longer free. Glad we were notified when it would be stopping so people that might checkout the tweet aren't disappointed (read "pissed-off") when they see it's no longer free.

Is it possible to set a specific word/phrase when you offer a discount? Doesn't seem like it. Would be nice, e.g. 'xmas14' instead of totally random letters

Andrew - the dance would also help unload some of the calories from todays intake. Took the wife to a place that had turkey dinner - I had shrimp - you could tell they weren't set up to serve anything on the menu but their Turkey Day Special.

Perhaps the only discount I could give that might work would be if I paid people to take a few.

i think i made a suggestion like that in the past, to make my own custom name, but so far nuthin.

Great change for some great street photography at Walmart tomorrow morning.

"free shipping on cards recently" -- Really? I never heard about it. No wonder I was selling so many cards. I thought something weird was going on. Glad to have a few print sales more recently.

Goes to show that offering free shipping works.
