Payment Problems?

Hello!

I received an email from PayPal saying that I needed to claim my payment, however whenever I click on the link and log in to my account there is nothing there? I've never used PayPal before so not entirely sure how it works....

Big question were you expecting a payment and second question are you using a separate password for your Paypal account? You will need to go directly to Paypal and change your password and if you have used that same PW on any other sites change them as well.

Highly likely the email was a scam email to get your account information. Never click on links in emails always go directly to said website.

You need to run Virus and Malware scans on your computer. Esp if you clicked on that link and do not have a Paypal account.

paypal usually doesn't send anything. if they do log in - don't click on links. as andee said, you probably have malware now. and if you weren't expecting money in there, that's worse. you'll get these as paypal, fedex, ups, usmail, dhl, and all the banks.

I never received email from PayPal "to claim" a payment. if someone send you payment via pay pal you will get a email from pay pal and the money just keep in your account until you use it. I think it is a scam trying to steal your account information, change your password right away.

It happened to me also. I can't remember exactly what I did but I believe I had to re-verify my paypal account or something like that.

Payments to an email address not linked to your PayPal account

If a buyer sends you a PayPal payment but sends it to an email address that isn't linked to your PayPal account, you have to claim your payment by adding that email address to your account.

To claim the payment:
Click the link provided in the email from PayPal.
If you have a PayPal account, click Log In. Otherwise, click Sign Up.
If you're creating a new account, use the email address where the payment was sent as your PayPal address.
If you're adding an email to an existing account, click the Continue link.
Check your email for the confirmation message from PayPal and click the link in that email.
On the email confirmation page, enter your PayPal password and click Confirm.
Click Go to my account and you'll see the money you've claimed appear in your account. If it doesn't, log out of PayPal and click the link in the email once more, then log in again.

I would still recommend going to the paypal site and contacting them before clicking on a random link that says it is from Paypal. Unless someone told me they were sending me money via paypal. It is just too risky and then Paypal can tell you if it is from them or not. Too many bad emails being sent looking like it is from Paypal. Anyone can set there email to say it is from paypal. Better safe than sorry.

Sorry, to clarify it said the money was from FAA (I was expecting a payment as I had sold some items, though I've never sold any before so not sure what to expect), and previously I hadent verified my email address with the account which is where I think the problem was. I've since done so, and its still not in there when I click (hovering over the link gives the same address it directs to, as does the email address).

Log into Paypal as normal. - Your Paypal email for login will be the one that you gave FAA to pay you with.
In your list of transactions there should be one from FAA.
In one of the columns there should be a button that says Claim.
Click that button.

If you see none of the above, contact PayPal, copy & paste the email they sent into your message to them. Only they can really tell you whats up.

I never click a "paypal" link in an email - too many phishing scams! Log directly into PayPal.com and check it that way.

what you copied above many be what was written on the page. however if you go back to your email and hover over it, you should be able to see the link at the bottom of the page where it's actually going. in any case run the check, log into the site. if nothing is there it was a scam and maybe a virus.

... I've had a letter from a guy in Africa, he told me to send him my bank account details as I had won the lottery.

That was last week, and I haven't heard anything back.

Should I be worried?

LOL.

PayPal DO send out claim emails as was shown before. I have ad them myself for a couple of different payments form people

However, you need to go BEHIND THE SCENES | balance and see if the payment went out

Then you log into PayPal and do what Craig said
