Misticismo, New Dawn By Orlando Botelo

Hey everyone,

I'm in the process of writing my final essay at my art school for English, and we have to write about a certain piece of artwork found at a gallery. My piece is Misticismo New Dawn. I've attached a photo of it. I was hoping I could get your guys' opinion on it. I need to write about the meaning of the piece, and while I have my own interpretations, I'd really like to hear what other artists have to say about it. It would help me a lot during the thought process of this essay. Any comments are much appreciated!

Thanks in advance
-Kairi

Hiya Kairi,

Are you trying to get some of us to do your homework?? Years ago we had an art student ask us over and over how we all felt about different art subjects. That is, until we found out that all he wanted us to do was to do his homework for him. The reason I say that is because he told us so. So Kairi, I will tell you how I feel about this piece of art only after you tell us what you feel that artist is trying to say.

Well Harold,

I am not trying to get a free pass, or else I wouldn't have mentioned it was for an essay instead of just asking you what you thought about it. After I posted I realized I didn't tell my idea about it and wondered if I should have. Obviously I should have. I don't know what this artist is trying to say, so I will just state what I see when I look at it. When I look at this piece I see some kind of higher power being praised. Perhaps the people inside the light circle represent some special standard as "in the loop" and the figure on the left as the main squeeze. Like deciples or something. Sometimes I also see the large face at the top as the sun instead of a God, per say. As if it's shining something down upon us as people. I think this because of the blue trail from the face to the outside of the painting. I even think it's possible that this is resembling some political statement about how people worship the government. However, seeing how beautiful this piece is and knowing what I know about the artist and how he values his paintings portraying beautiful things in life I don't think that's the case. That's just a thought. Anyway that's some of what I think about it. They're alright interpretations, but to me I feel like I'm missing the bigger picture here and what exactly all this is supposed to be saying, which is why I came for help. You don't have to tell me what you think. I'm not interested in begging for your thoughts, I was just being honest about seeking new insight.
