1700+ And Image Download Would Be A Great Feature

Hi,

Just passed 1700 image uploads the other day and was thinking it would be so great if we could download our own images in full resolution if needed. I don't know if this would cause site slow down, etc. but it would give the premium membership a big bump in value.

That's not to say that I don't think it's already an incredible value. I don't sell frequently, but I do sell here... and my pricing is such that even one small print sale makes a premium membership a no-brainer.

I keep my flickr account, mostly for a second online-storage space that's reasonably priced and allows me to download my own images in original resolution any time I want. I'm aware that if you happen to lose an image, or your local copy gets corrupted, etc. FAA/Pixels tech support is always very helpful in getting you a link to download your original when requested, but it would be really awesome if we could do that at any time without having to trouble tech support with the request.

Some brainy would just learn to hack the system and take our images.

Skip I have 17 works of art up on FAA. 1700 seems like a lot. I can't believe the number of images that is on this site. I've been in those little gift stores where if you turn around you're going to knock something down. Plus I've been in the upscale art galleries where they have a few pieces on the wall with great lighting. Anyway just a thought.

@Pamela, it could be done and be just as "secure" as it is now.

@Jack, I prefer to have every image that I've edited for print in my account. That way, if I lose everything in a fire, etc. including backups... I know I at least have all my edited versions here, and on Flickr.

Don't really see people browsing through anyones entire library here anyway. And, I try to manage the large quantity with galleries.

I don't believe anyone goes to "my gift store" to browse for something anyway. They find it somehow via google search, or searching here. I think I used to get even more actual buying traffic as a result of the Amazon arrangement FAA/Pixels used to have. Such a pity that went away.

To each their own though.

Jack, there is little correlation between what works in a brick and mortar gallery and an online gallery.
I pay $30 a year just to warehouse my work and take advantage of faa's great google ranking.
Print sales is a complete bonus.

If you ever need a version of your full sized image because of a HD crash or you're on the road or something all you have to do is email Abbie (and perhaps JC?) and the site will get it to you.

I have 2013 so far. Yes the ability to download would be wonderful!

I had lost mine in storage and faa sent me the files but upon upload to my puter they reverted to 300 by whatever. I asked again and the next person said they didnt know what I was talkin about so couldnt help me. I figured they dudnt want me to be able to puttem on another pod. So just decided to redo em

@Joshua, yes... I know. She's done this for me a couple times. The point was... many of us use the premium account to warehouse our images and take advantage of the great google ranking as Marlene mentioned. It's awesome where there are also sales, but being able to download any of our original images any time we want without having to fill out a tech support ticket and trouble Abbie with it, would be spectacular. She's spread too thin as it is, and it would make a great bullet item "feature" of the premium account.

It's rare I ever need to grab an image in full res online, but it happens. That's why I uploaded all of my hi-res originals to Flickr recently, ie. so that when I want to grab an original and don't have access to my home files, I get get to them. If you could do that with FAA/Pixels too, that would be great.

That's it, all I've got to say about it. Yes, I know and stated above, that I know FAA/Pixels/Abbie will get you your image if you need it, but what if they are in the middle of an artist-website update and don't have time? Or, what if you need it right then and there and don't have time to wait for the tech support queue? And, wouldn't Abbie and other tech support's time be better spent on real issues with the site instead of having to respond to image download requests?

There is another POD, (not as popular) that has that as part of their incentive. I agree it would be a fantastic idea for FAA to do that, plus that puts the downloading on the artist and takes it out of tech supports long list of things to do.

I think the site would lose value if you could do that not gain value. People are very concerned and even paranoid about hacking right now. It is nice to know they will give me files in case of a failure of my own back ups.

Hack in an steal your artwork? Seriously? LOL

If someone can breach security, it's not your artwork they're gonna be after. ;)

I back up my back ups. But I think that if everyone could just download their files at once, that could cause a problem.

17,000 is a lot of files. But there are members that have 25k, 50K and over 100K. Not sure what kind of slow down that would cause. I am assuming that not all of the files are on one server at FAA. But there could be an over load on any one of them if too many wanted their files at the same time. I would think.

But I really have no idea.

I only have 1700, but sites like Flickr seem to manage just fine. And, FAA/Pixels doesn't allow very large files anyway. It's doable for sure, but there may be other reasons Sean doesn't consider this that I haven't considered.

Bottom line, for those who never sell anything here, and aren't using the selling tools or driving traffic to their artist website, etc. the storage component alone would make a premium membership a worthwhile expense. Especially if you can download your images any time you need to.

I agree, and am surprised really that images are not available to view in full resolution, I personally would be leery to purchase a print of something I could not get a really good view of,

Sami Tiainen

I think this would not be such a good idea because it most likely increases the yearly cost, adds security problems, etc, and there already is web storage servers you could purchase space for.
I think our FAA file retrievals should only be done on a case by case basis.

Judy, I don't quite understand "to view in full resolution".
