Shipping Fees

Hello fellow artists,

I have a showing at a coffee shop, so people ordered few prints from me. Last October i ordered 4 Metal prints, one was 60x27, 2 where 36x24 and one was 10x16 and two paper prints. Shipping cost total was 72.76. Then on 11/14/14 i ordered 4 more prints 60x27 36x24 and two of 30x20 and shipping cost was 100.95. also on 11/04/14 I ordered a print 24x19 and it was only 10.95 to ship, On November 17 I ordered 40x26 metal print and shipping was 32.95. and today i was placing an order of 60x27 metal print. at first shipping was 32.95 and then it changed to 54.95 and when i called the customer service i was told the shipping was 32.95. has anyone else experienced this kind of discrepancy?

Are all the prints of the same kind?

Art K

not the same image now, but 60.27 is same image three different times

My printing costs are consistent, but I generally order one print type at a time. FAA uses different printers for the different types of prints, so perhaps it's when you mix prints in your order and they are coming from different locations. Just a thought, but I have no idea how they handle that.

The good news is that you are selling prints!

Yeah these are all metal prints. and they are shipping from CA, they are in Torrance or Santa Monica. I am having Metal Print display.

Art K

and i am in LA too, so for a company to charge me 100.95 to ship 4 items and then 54.95 for on item? doesn't make sense

I wish FAA could use less packaging (size wise) to lessen shipping costs. Major shipping companies are not only charging by weight but also by the size of the box. I don't want damaged goods but the boxes my metal, acrylic and canvas prints were in were WAY bigger than the prints.....not just the two inches of buffer that UPS recommended to me when I shipped glass items from one state to another.

i completely agree!

i was told - Metal prints ship from Texas, North Carolina, and Glasgow, Scotland - it just depends on the shipping destination. You might see a different shipping cost in your shopping cart than a client that lives in NYC.

thats great! but why wouldnt it be shipped from CA if i am here. i understand different shipping locations....

guess all we have to do is either leave the site or continue....

metal prints ship from TX, NC and Glasgow.... not from CA.
FAA is in Santa Monica, the manufacturer of the metal prints and all other prints for that matter, is not.

never the less to get charged 73 dollars for 4 prints and 53 for one is kinda odd. thanks everyone

THIS IS FROM THEIR WEBSITE;

11:

How long is the transit time to my city?

We ship all of our products via UPS, FedEx, or USPS depending on the destination. All products ship from the United States. Framed prints, canvas prints, regular prints, and greeting cards are all produced in North Carolina. Acrylic prints and metal prints are produced in California.

The transit time will depend on your location in the world and the selected shipper.

My solution is to order from other vendors who have upfront, one fee or no fee shipping charges.

Metal prints, i found that FAA is cheapest. Canvas - they arent cheapest.

Happy Tuesday everyone!

Shipping fees have always been a topic of conversation simply because they are going to be different for everyone. I understand that many artists like to quote their clients the total shipping cost, but unfortunately we do no have a shipping chart with standard shipping prices. I know that can be frustrating.

Our standard response to figuring out the shipping cost is:

“To figure out the shipping, all you have to do is add the item(s) to your shopping cart, proceed to our checkout screen, and you'll instantly see how much everything will cost including shipping.”

Shipping your fine art prints around the world involves extra care, packaging, etc. to arrive safely to your (or your client’s) doorstep. Shipping costs are negotiated between our company, our fulfillment centers and the shipping carriers, so I hope you can understand where we are coming from as a business. There is a complex formula used to come up with the shipping cost, that is again, determined by several parties involved.

When you see the shipping cost on the checkout page, it’s not a glitch or error. Our site has always been fully automated, so we tell you the exact price you have to pay for shipping based on your location and the exact items in your shopping cart (size, weight, quantity, etc.).

Our company utilizes many different production facilities in the US, and now in the UK - yay! The shipping cost you see when you add an image to your shopping cart will more than likely differ from the next person - we have members and buyers from all over the world. Also, we use different facilities to produce different types of products, so one order might have a prints shipping from different printing locations in the US. We are fully automated behind the scenes to recognize this, which goes back to the formula we use to determine the shipping cost.

We used to ship some prints from California, but currently, we do not. I will be sure to have our admin update the language on the FAQ page to reflect updated production locations, but keep in mind that they can change from time to time.

I hope that better explains shipping fees and thank you for understanding!

If you have any more questions/concerns on this topic, don’t hesitate to contact myself or Rosemary by sending a message to Customer Service:

Glad you are showing & your prints are SELLING!!! That's awesome! I find shipping costs (often more than the art) to be frustrating. I have various addresses, so I will input different ones to see what the best delivery date & cost can be at the time I order. I have this when I order my own prints, books, etc. I think sometimes it also depends on the DAY of the week you want it delivered. I think the UPS & Federal Express may contract with the USPS to deliver on the weekends, and thus charge more.

Well, Hello Cortney..........lovely to hear from you here......thanks for your informative post........Happy Holidays.........VIVA .. and thanks for lots of help over the years........

I ordered a metal print for a customer a few months ago, and for a 36x36 I paid $31 if that helps.

Art K

Courtney - could you explain why would the system give me a $10 dollars price difference to ship same size item, both on metal to the same zip code?

Art K

so after i sent a screen shot of 2 different items same size being charged 10 dollars difference for shipping to the same location, Courtney gave me this explanation - "Thanks for the links. Please understand that we route orders to different fulfillment centers based on daily order volume. The shipping charges are slightly different from one fulfillment center to the next. That's why the shipping charges came up as different amounts.

I apologize for any inconvenience and confusion - thanks for understanding!

Have a nice day,
Cortney"

I dont think this is a valid answer,. if you ship form Texas i am sure price of shipping is more than 10 dollars difference than say if it is shipped form NC or your other shipping places. this makes no sense. we should be told in advance where it is shipped form so we can see how long it will take and what the price difference is.

IT MAKES NO SENSE TO GET CHARGED 72 DOLLARS FOR 22 ITEMS AND 54 FOR ONE!!!!!!!!!

I just experienced the shipping cost on FAA change drastically within the course of about an hour. How can that happen?

Out of curiosity, to see the shipping cost of a recent sale, I added a small framed print to my cart and was shocked at the high shipping cost of around $25. I then added an unframed print that I purchased myself a few months ago - paying about $6 shipping. Today, it was around $12 shipping - double from a few months ago. I played around with adding some other items - all showed very high shipping costs. After that, I spent about an hour or so reading through FAQs and different discussions here regarding shipping. I just went back and added the same unframed print (yes, same size, same ship to location) and the shipping cost now shows $6.25 instead of $12 - perfectly reasonable.

What is occurring here? These differences are not "slight" and I believe the high rates I saw earlier could definitely deter someone from making a purchase.

Thank you

Art K

Yeah all i was told simply is that they use different fulfillment centers that print the items. I dont get why a print ordered from California isn't printed in California as it used to be. and also it used to be delivered by UPS and now its FedEx

Anyone else not surprised that maybe shipping costs would increase during the holidays? I ordered a 20X16 canvas print for my wife and the S&H was $19 from one Carolina to the other.

Art K

this has nothing to do with Holidays. i ordered my prints in October and November.

If the shipping costs are more than the art, that's often a sign that the prices need to be higher.

Art K

true and not true, we want to sell our art and value our work but we also want to make sure people can afford it.

Yes, I agreed, the shipping prices should be organized and manageable since having a big differences can throw off the customers or the artists alike. Hopefully they can resolve this issue as soon as possible to maintain loyalty.

Another thing, I checked the prices on the throw pillows, the shipping cost is all the same for the whole world from USA at $5.00. Is this a glitch? or this really the price since I have customers overseas and it still quoted $5.00 from USA to other countries. If this is not a glitch then answer me if anyone has done this shipping of throw pillow yet.

Art K

yeah i love the website and ease of use, and navigation, and how it is all interconnected with so many different platforms, BUT i hate how the shipping prices are calculated and yes it definitely does discourage people from buying, especially FRAMED prints.

Tammie Miller

Thanks for the responses. I guess the answer is - it's just the way it is. At least today, the shipping rates I see are back to the reasonable rates and not the exorbitant ones I saw for a period of time yesterday.
