most of these are totally random. many are in shadow. the meditation guy is not easy to see and is wearing a watch which throws off the title but he didn't ask for a critique, so i'm not giving that. we get these random thread topics from time to time to stroke an ego. i don't stroke ego's. i just can't find anything i could say i liked.

I really like this one, I like how you captured the humming bird's wings movement with the wire of the feeder makes a good composition.Maybe you should crop off the dark edge on the left it is little distracting for me.

I can smell the fresh clean mountain air.


This one reminds me of rembrandt. Low light but powerful images. Light struggling with dark. Love this one.

I had a good friend many years ago who suddenly told me the truth about something she was feeling about me that really annoyed her. It obviously really annoyed everyone else but she was the only person honest enough to tell me. I was shocked ! But only for a few moments.I changed my perspective on that particular negative issue that I was being a pain about,thanks to her. I took a good honest look at was going on.Fortunately I have always been more interested in what is "true" than what makes me feel good. I have only met very few people in my life who have her refreshing honesty. I'm so grateful to those people. But of course other people are needed also who can stroke our egos and encourage us. Sometimes this is so very necessary. I'm so happy that we have BOTH kinds of people here on FAA. BOTH are needed. Jane Small

if i had to choose any of them - it's the guys face, but i don't like the random belly in there and a more isolated light would be better. like a deep crop with black and white. i can't call it a best though because of the other distractions.

Jane, I agree with what you said but the "brutal truth" coming out of left field from a guy that has no qualifications what so ever, in an open forum is not the right place.

You said it yourself, this was a friend that told you these things. Did she do in an open forum where everyone can see and hear it.

There is a place for honesty. And everyone needs to hear the truth. But they do not need a know-it-all, self appointed art critic doing it a rude manner in an open forum.

Especially when it was not asked for.

Mike talks about rules, well that is a rule also, no critiques unless they are asked for. The OP did not ask a critique. Mike has been told a dozen times to stop criticizing people's work. But he just keeps doing it. Is Mike above the rules?

floyd just answer the op. i think the op has to have the reason why i like or don't like a piece. it's not a critique per say even though it technically is. i can't say its good because its not good enough for me. but what do you like in this collection and why?

what i say may come out as a critique but it is what is and i felt he deserved an explanation. if he only thought that one was good then, well for me thats not good enough.

Floyd,I have the same respect for you as I do for Mike. I love reading your opinions,insights and suggestions. Maybe it looks like I sit on a fence,but there are very few people who are as blunt as Mike and his views are so soon drowned out anyway by all the other people offering very encouraging remarks. Therefore it seems to me that there is a place for all the different approaches without his remarks causing too much damage. And in some cases,it may be EXACTLY what the person really needs to hear even if they don't appreciate it at the time. I suppose he could write the op a private note but then you could say that the person has come on a public forum in the first place to ask people what they like the most. If you do that you must be willing to take a certain risk that they might not like them and they might tell you.
