Artists Willing To Work With A Game Mod Creator?

Before I go any further, let me explain that by working with me I mean agreeing to let me use a few images to create new items for a game. If you're still reading after that, please read further. (I'll explain and go into more detail.)

I found this site while looking for images to use in my creations. It's my firm belief that only free images should be used and I stick to that belief at all times. The games I create for are The Sims 2 and The Sims 4. At the moment the only things I can create for The Sims 4 are wallpapers, floors and clothing. For The Sims 2 I create recolors of EA in-game meshes, recolors of custom meshes, wallpapers, floors, terrain paints and brand new meshes for the game. (That's actually my main focus.)
When I create new meshes I either create my own textures or other images or use free images I find as they are or edit them. I recently created some new painting meshes and would like to make some more recolors for them. I have found some nice free images to use but have found most of them lacking in some way or other.

If you're still reading, I'd like to ask if there are any artists who would be willing to allow me to use 2-4 images in these recolors. I'm aware that licenses can be bought. Unfortunately I'd never be able to afford any. I would like to point out that I do not make any money from my creations and my TOU forbids anyone to take my work, repost it and profit from it. EA itself forbids commercial use. (That said, there are people who charge for their creations and there are a few remaining paysites. I AM NOT one of those people. I have never, and never will, asked for money in exchange for my work.)

I know this is a lot to ask. I'm not asking to use every image on this site made by every artist. So I would like to ask that anyone who might be even a little bit interested to consider it. I'm a very respectful and honest person and would never do this without permission. As stated above, 2 to 4 images is what I would like to be able to use- but I'd be fine with being allowed to use just 1.
A few things that may help if you're thinking about it:
*The main web site I upload my creations to does not allow anything to uploaded that infringes on copyright. If anything does get through, it's removed when asked. (Same goes for the actual creators, if asked they do remove their items.)
*Any time I have used free artist images, I always include the site I got the image(s) from and include a link to the site and artist. This may not do much in reality, but I do so in the hopes that people will at least visit the site and see what the artists have to offer. Credit is always given for anything I use that I did not make myself.
*I am a Featured Artist at this main site I upload to; am also a moderator there; have been creating for The Sims 2 for 5 years (The Sims 4 just came out, so only a couple of months for that game) and I have won an award for my work. So anything I may use from this site would be taken care of, so to speak, and not made in any way that would cause anyone to look unfavorably on the original artist.

If you would like to see the site I'm talking about: www.modthesims.info
My profile there: www.modthesims.info/member.php?u=2141183 - if you do look at my profile, the painting meshes I'm speaking about here are the very first download on my profile page.
I also have a tumblr I upload to- I cross post most of my creations there: www.mustluvcatz.tumblr.com

If you've read this far, thank you. I do understand that I'm asking for a lot here and understand that getting anyone to work with me on this is a long shot. Thank you, again, for reading.

Maria
(mustluvcatz is my creator name)

I'm also a featured creator on Mod the Sims - http://www.modthesims.info/member.php?u=781775 - and I can vouch for everything Maria says. They don't tolerate copyright infringement, and they require that all work be properly credited. Plus, I've found it to be a unique way to advertise my work, and to reach people I could otherwise never have reached. And, yes, I have made real world sales from it. Once I have the time to create new painting meshes for Sims 4, I will be doing the same thing. It only requires small, low res images, like the ones available here or on Google images, so it really isn't much of a risk in terms of image theft, and it could pay off for those willing to try. Plus, it's a pretty cool thing to say that your work can be seen in a top selling video game. At least my 12 yr old son thinks so.

Good luck, Maria! Hope you get some takers.

How completely amazing, totally out of my world.
Wow, Maria and April!
Go ahead. Pick three from me, and promise to show me the outcomes......they will live electronically far beyond my own assured short destiny....I just love that idea.......! I'll tell the grand girls!
Let me know which you want!
You, too April.
Cheers, VIVA

PS....I LOVE CATZ 2

ok, I love the sims and as long as I get credit and some publicity for it then yeah, go for it.

Wow, Thank You Vivian and Nicole!

I've picked out 3 of Vivian's I'd like to use and made a little preview (on all four of my meshes) to make sure it's fine. It was made in my 3D program MilkShape, not in The Sims 2.

http://i459.photobucket.com/albums/qq317/mamamia61364/Example_zps68aef5ea.png
The reason I chose to use that one as a preview is that I needed to edit it to fit my texture map. There are 2 versions- 1 uses the entire image but I added more blue to the top, the other I just chose part of it. Your signature is on both of them, I plan on making it darker so it stands out more.
So that image (My Garden #26), The Two of Us (#10) and My Friends (#13) are the 3 I would like to use. There wouldn't be any need for me to edit the other two at all. They'll fit my texture map just fine. If you're not fine with me editing any of them, I could use Entry (#3) instead. Don't know how I missed see that one earlier!

Nicole: I haven't had a chance to look at your work yet. I'm already up way past my bedtime so I'll look in the morning. Is four alright with you? If not, just let me know how many I can choose.

Thank you again. I'm so excited I may not be able to sleep right away!

April: Hello! You've proved to me that it is indeed a small world.

PS: We had 8 cats at one time. Mom, dad and six kittens. So I definitely must love cats.

Interesting! Yes, I am Willing to Work For a Game Mod Creator! Do let me know if any of my images fit into the need of the game. I shall be more than willing to contribute with any 2 of my works. Please, do let me know which ones are being taken, if, at all!!! Good luck with your work, dear Maria and April! Greetings...

How extraordinary, Maria........do you realize, I don't understand a single word you say, lol, but........I have complete faith in your mission. And, I am thrilled my works will fit your purpose.........they are still 'yours for the asking'.........go for it girl.........but, hey, get some sleep, too...........can't wait to see where all this goes.........very excited.

Now then, April, you see what's 'taken', lol, pick another or two;/three for yourself........all with my blessings, just so long as you share the outcomes.
Let me know.

What a great way to sort-=of end a life's career in Art for this old biddy.......out there among the , um, sim/games?........hehe!! Cheers girls. xVivian

Oh, I do so love this life in dedication to ART !

Interesting way to have art displayed. Count my images in ! Please let me know if you are interested in any of my images. My kids/grandkids play Sims games. It would be so exciting to show them my art within the game if chosen.

Thank you Karunita, Cynthia, Quita and Bob! I've taken a look at your profiles and found some work that I'd like to use. Nicole: I took a look and found what I'd like to use of your's too. I'm a notoriously bad sleeper and am headed back to bed for a bit. Just wanted to thank you for your kind offers and let you know that I've found plenty of awesome work to use in my creations.

That said- if I've counted right I now have 18 possibilities, which is way more than I dreamed of. An even 24 would be nice but I don't want to be greedy- I think I can say that I have enough now. Again, thank you! I didn't expect such a positive response and I hope I do your works justice. I've more to say but my pillow is calling me. So until later!

we differ on beliefs. it's my belief that if your going to profit from this, then i should profit as well. and free stuff, i can't live on free stuff. i can't imagine too many that would just give it away. the sims in general should have money to pay.

though i can't believe that the sims is still running.

Oh but 24 is such a nice even number and all artist that have posted above and granted permission of use for their artwork would never think your greedy! Sweet dreams to you ! And good luck everyone!

Cynthia: Doubtful they'll be good enough? Believe me, they are/were. I absolutely love Red Roses Weeping and wish I could afford a print. I'd hang that on my wall in a nano-second.

Mike Savad: I understand your point of view. really I do. But there's a huge difference between the works found here and what I do. Artists here own their work and have every right to profit from it; depending on who you ask, creators for the sims don't- EA does. (I disagree to a point with that. I make most of my meshes from scratch and quite a few of my textures too. Since I don't use any of EA's meshes and don't profit from them in any way or post them on the official EA site, I consider my meshes my property. But I do have to clone an EA mesh to get mine into the game.) Yes, you (and the other artists here) can't live on free stuff- neither can I- but I'm not making any kind of profit on what I'm doing, nor does my livelihood depend on it . (And that doesn't bother me in the slightest. I love what I do and I do it for fun.) I think the artists who's work I'm going to be using are getting the better end of the deal here.. they're going to be getting exposure to a new type of audience and hopefully some, or all, of them will even profit from it. I'm not trying to be flippant or disrespectful, just trying to show you my point of view.

Now. All my textures are done, there are 18 in all. In my earlier example I showed 2 finished pictures. One of them I edited (added to it) to make it fit my texture map. I decided not to use that one because I don't feel it's up to me to add to any of the artist's works. If a certain image didn't fit on my texture map, all I did was center it on the most pleasing (to me) part of my map. So there are some of them that don't show the whole work. I also added the arist's name as a signature to all of them.

I'll work on finishing this project up later on today and let everyone know which works I ended up using. All that I have left to do is make the actual package files that get put into the game. This brings me to a couple of questions:

For those who's works I used: Would you like an image preview before I post this project on Mod The Sims? I really want everyone to be happy with what I've done. And: Would any of you like a copy of it? Even if you don't play The Sims 2. You could just tuck it away in a dark, drafty corner of your hard drive. :)

Why, thank you, Viv! I would like to use the three pieces from your Outrageous triptych. They would look amazing in the game. Unfortunately, since The Sims 4 is still so new, the modders that develop the tools to add custom object meshes (like paintings) into the game are still working on them. There are some tools in beta mode, but last I heard, they were a bit buggy still. Things like patterns and stock content recolors are possible now, but, like Maria said, I prefer to make my own meshes rather than using the ones EA/Maxis has made. So as soon as a stable set of tools are released that allow me to do that without blowing up anyone's game and/or computer, I'll be getting right on it, and I'll be sure to post the link.

Here are a couple of meshes that I made for the Fallout theme for The Sims 2...

...using this piece...

Sell Art Online

That was five years and two Sims iterations ago, so you can imagine how much better the graphics are now than they were then. But even so, I've sold that piece to more Sims players than I have to anyone else. One of the benefits of creating your own custom content rather than just recoloring the existing content is that you get to add your own catalog descriptions in the game, which can include your website and email address so they know how to reach you. It's like having your own business card right in the game.

Be kinda cool to see a few of mine used... have at it.

My gamer friends would get a kick out of it.

April: You bring up a good point with the catalog descriptions in game. That point right there is the reason I'm thinking I may make a couple of new painting meshes for the works I'm using from here. Credit and links in the post are good- having a "This painting is by.... and can be bought here.." description every time someone uses the mesh is even better. I'm so overwhelmed by the positive responses I've gotten here that I really want to do whatever I can to make this a really great thing for the artists here.

Heather and Darice: Thank you! I'd said 18 was enough but I couldn't pass up a few from the two of you. (Heather, those marshmallows are too cute.)

Now that I have 24, that really is enough for now. Thank you, thank you, thank you. If this set goes over as well as I hope, I'd be open to doing another set.

A bit later than I had planned, but I'm done with this project. I would love to post links to my screenshots used in the upload but I'm having internet connection problems- as of right now I've been waiting 5 minutes for just one Photobucket link to load. So here is a link to the actual download at Mod The Sims instead: www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=541853

This has really been a pleasant, enjoyable experience for me. Thank you one more time for allowing me to use your images! I'm hoping I did your works justice.

Awesome! Thanks Maria and keep in touch for any other projects you may be working on. I love the finished project. Can't wait to show the kids!

Good Day!
Wed.morning in OZ.

YOU do work fast, girls!

Now, from what I just read, it's all GO

I'm not sure how to 'see' the outcomes, so, could somebody post links please.

Sounds like a whole new world is filling up with familiar Art.
WELL DONE !

Great job, Maria! Lovely presentation. I'd love to collaborate on a Sims 4 picture pack once the tools are in place if there's enough interest from the artists here. Maybe the Ranchies can create a Fine Art America gallery lot. How fun would that be?!

Love it ALL.....permission to fly.............congrats!

Quita Jean - Thanks and I hope your grandkids love the paintings! I will definitely keep you all in mind for any possible future projects.. if you all will have me again, that is.

Vivian - Work fast? Kind of, lol. Since I already had a template for recolors (thanks to the meshes and recolors previously done) it didn't take long to do the recolors for this project. There were a few that I had to tweak a bit after seeing them but that didn't slow me down much.

Heather - Thank You. Hope your gamer friends get a kick out of them.

April - Thanks. :) Collaborate? Of course. You know how to reach me come the time we can do TS4 recolors. (Ranchie project? That would be fun!)

Vivian (again) - Thank you!
