Greeting Cards Bought In Uk

Can I just ask a daft question.

As an emergency purchase. (Yes that typical - left it too late scenario) I really wanted to send one of my own greeting cards to an address in the UK.

I live in the UK and was under the impression that Greeting cards are now printed/shipped from the UK.

So can someone explain why the shipping Tax is still £3:80? Yet, if I live in America, or anywhere else other than the UK it's Free? Excuse the dense question, but I'm confused...

Because the company that makes the cards can't ship them for free?

Thanks Heather - but that doesn't answer my question - I could buy with any online company here in the UK and only be charged 0.60p shipping - same with another company I sell with. They rarely charge over £1 and the cards are more than fine. Sadly, though they do not offer the next business day service.

I have my base price as low as I can afford to make it, with shipping on top it pushes an average card up to £6+ Call me Scrooge, but I refuse to pay £6 for a greeting card! Even my own!

if you like me, you can print your own card with a photo printer.

Neat so shipping on cards in the and from the US is now free?

Hi Alfred.

LOL - Whilst you are perfectly right — it was more out of principal - It's also made me realise that anyone buying from the UK will avoid purchasing from my site. So, guess it's answered a marketing issue.

Another site I deal with has the same card for £3.06 ho hum....

Thanks anyway.

To give a counter-example, shipping a 9 foot wide canvas in the US from FAA costs around $435. Shipping a 9 foot wide canvas in the UK from FAA costs £12.24. I know which I'd rather have cheap shipping on, but then I don't sell cards.

Yes but I'm not buying a Canvas Alexis it's a card. That thing that gets looked at for two seconds then thrown in a bin! I may as well send a canvas..it's ruddy cheaper!
