Life's Little Ups And Downs

We had to say goodbye to our precious kitty, Arrow, on Tuesday.

Some of you may recall that he got sick awhile back, but he was able to pull through. Unfortunately, the medicine didn't work this time, and we had to have him put down. We are very sad and missing him so much already, but we decided the best thing to do to honor his memory would be to open our hearts and our home to another animal in need. I didn't want another cat (there can never be another one like him), so we chose this guy from the Humane Society yesterday...

His name is Wallace. He's a 2 yr old labrabull (labrador/pit bull mix), and he's a total sweetheart. He and my almost 12 yr old son are already inseparable, which is good because my son adored our cat and was so heart broken when he died. Now he's looking forward to teaching his new pet some tricks and playing frisbee with him.

Thanks, Menega! We probably would have waited awhile to adopt another animal if the cat's death had been unexpected, but he'd been sick for almost a year with a recurring condition, so we had time to prepare ourselves for it. Still hurt like heck, but you're right, it does help having another one to care for and love on.

I'm sorry for your loss, heartbreaking!

Did the dog come with the tie? :-) You're already subjecting him to that, get him trained now before Christmas gets here LOL

April , I am so sorry over your loss of Arrow. He looks like our Jinxie boy , who was also much loved, & sadly missed.

Wishing your family wonderful times ahead with Wallace. Such a handsome boy.

Those are the most gorgeous kitty whiskers I think I have ever seen, so so sorry for your family's loss. Wallace is quite dashing in his tie, lol! Wonderful for him to have found a home with you and your family...better test some 'test' christmas packages if you put stuff under the tree! In case W. likes to 'taste' things!!

Sorry to hear about the loss of your beloved pet.

Wallace is adorable - it is those eyes that draw you in. May you have many, many years to enjoy his company.

Thank you all so much for the kind words. I still tear up whenever I come across something that reminds me of Arrow, and those things are everywhere. But I'm glad that I have so many good memories of our time together. He was unlike any other cat I've ever known.

Wallace is very well-behaved for a shelter dog - we haven't had to redirect him once - so I think he'll probably do okay with Christmas presents unless they contain raw meat and meow like a cat. He is not socialized to other animals, and he does get a bit growly and pit bully around them, so I foresee obedience classes in our future.

Awe, I'm sorry about your kitty. Glad to see that even through your pain of the recent loss you still gave room in your heart to give a very deserving pet a new home! I wish you many years and memories with your new fur baby!
