Fineartamerica Vs Finearteurope

Hello everyone,

Does anyone else finds it illogical that same company has two different websites for different parts of the world?

It really makes me wonder why is that? If a customer from EUROPE will land on a fineartamerica his shipping costs will be enormous!(and the other way around) (NOTE: that customer has no option to choose where is the product being shipped from! It is all depended if he had landed on fineartamerica or finearteurope)

What is even more weird... there is ZERO information on each site about their sibling. Am I missing something here?

Both sites should have big banners to redirect between EUROPE and AMERICA

...or wouldn't it be smarter to have a one site with an option; "from where would you like to ship your product from?"

Even with marketing your own FAA/FFE website, you have to link two profiles for potential customers from EU and USA.... Otherwise, they might be deterred by the thought that their product has to travel half of the universe before it gets to them, not to mention rates for shipping...

I am fairly new around here and I might be missing some great deal of information... so please, forgive me my ignorance if I am not aware of something.

Go to your Behind the Scenes, click on Domain and read that page. There you will find that there is actually a write-up on each page explaining that they're all pretty much the same web site. As far as shipping, shipping costs are what they are and Fine Art Anywhere has no control over that. The issue would be where they can print from. Since all my sales have been in America, I don't have to worry about that too much. There have been other threads on here about printers though.

sporting the Mike look.. nice.

for a long time FAA was only american. we now print in europe, and it will switch the shipping over there recognized by IP. otherwise like joseph said, you can turn off the FAA one. however you then be invisible to google. most people come to this side, and the other site is a clone.

On the top right menu, when logged in, there is a drop down with everything you need for the site

BEHIND THE SCENES is for all the tools you need to set the site up and PROFILE is where your site is. I know it helped me when I first joined to just play in there a while before doing anything else.

At this time you are searching for DOMAINS as Joseph said

As Mike said, dependant on the shipping address is where the prints are done

Some people like to share their American site and some their European depending on the market they are advertising to. Better still just worry about the premium site and then it matters not a jot :)

@Joseph C Hinson

I know about it.

@ Mike

Hah!

Thank you all for very fast replies!

The reason I have started this thread was not being able to change the country from which a product will be shipping from.

Now I know what was the case... IP recognition doesn't work if you are browsing art with a GUEST account. Only when you are logged in, it works properly.

It confused me... I will test it one more time and see if it is still like that.

EDIT:

Yup, it still does try to ship it from the USA if I don't log in first (Ships from the US).

I'm pretty sure that it doesn't matter what site you use as to where it ships from.

I think it bases the shipping location from the delivery address doesn't it?

@FireFlux

Yes.

As I have mentioned I was browsing art without logging in and without it, during the checkout there was an information that it's going to be shipped from the US ( no option to change it ).

I know it is a very minor shortcoming, probably not worth mentioning but it confused me at first ( when I didn't know what it is causing it), so much that I have started this thread :)

(very often people register on site only when they are already decided to buy something from it)

I still think that even with an IP recognition, the site should let person to choose where does he want to ship it from.

Sorry for causing all this fuss about such a little thing :)

Thomas...no fuss.....a legitimate observation.
As a buyer, it would certainly interest me how the cost of shipping is determined, because, I wouldn't want to pay if it shipped to me from FEE if I live in USA...due to huge shipping price difference from each printer. There are Return costs to be considered too !

If I try to buy something, not logged in, then when I change the delivery country to a European country, it changes to 'Shipping from the UK'.

You cant change the 'shipping from the US' directly, you have to change the delivery country, then it automatically changes the 'Shipping from the xxxx' text.

Probably, the 'default' country is the US, so when you are logged out as a 'guest' its automatically picking the US.

When you log in as you, since your FAA country is set as Poland, I'm guessing its defaulting in 'Poland' into the shipping country, so it will show 'Shipping from the UK'.

Maybe?

@Vivian ANDERSON

Exactly, especially when someone is checking the total costs without registering (or logging in).

@FireFlux

If I am changing "Shipping Address" in checkout menu and being only a GUEST (not logged in) it still tries to ship from the US, no matter what European country I choose

When I am logged in, it properly sets the UK as a place from which it's going to be shipped.

If not however, it is determined by the site your are on (fineartAMERICA or fineartEUROPE) ignoring your IP location and even your Shipping Address during the checkout (country)

Another thing that I want to ask about ( but I don't want to keep opening new threads ) is why do...

"...You have to enable the personal link before you can enable the fan page link..."

when I am trying to add Fine Art America Shopping Cart to my Facebook fan page. I really don't want anything to be posted on my personal FB account which is only for family and close friends.

Ok thats strange... when I'm not logged in, it still uses the 'shipping country' that I define when filling out the shipping details.

In both cases (logged in or not) it defaults the Shipping country to the 'UK' for me (Probably because of my IP), but I can change that.

@FireFlux

If you are using firefox browser can you try it with Private Browsing please? (Ctrl + Shift + P)

Yep, tried it with FF PB, and it did the same for me, where I can change the shipping country.

However, I'm now a little concerned now.

When I fired up FF in PB mode, I noticed something was already in my Cart (which should be impossible in PB mode), and it was the few items I had added from my Chrome session.

After further looking into it, it seems that the whole cart system is not 'session' based, but IP based, as far as I can tell.

So, if I add 2 items to the cart on my PC, and then my girlfriend goes to the cart on her PC (both of us are on our home network, and therefore share the same external IP, and both PCs logged out from FAA), then her cart has my items in it, and vice versa.

Its very strange that IP address have been used to create a session for the carts, I would think that will create havoc with corporate networks, as only 1 person in the network can order or do things on FAA, and will effect everyone else's cart.

I do hope I've missed something and this isnt the case...

@Abbie, can you confirm this?

Thanks,

Rob.

@FireFlux

I don't know if it is IP based but I have kept logging in/out and YES, all previous items in my cart were still there (from previous sessions)

Another interesting thing (all things done as a GUEST):

PRIVATE SESSION Firefox

I have added one item to my cart, check if it will pick correct country from shipping = it did not

I have closed browser, than I have opened another one in a private mode as well and added another item and this happens...

Remember, also... not all items are available to be shipped from the UK.

So, if you pick a 'Acrylic Print'... it will always ship from the US, as the UK doesnt do them yet.

If you pick 2 items, one with 'Canvas Prints' and the other 'Acrylic Print'.. the Canvas will ship from the UK, but the Acrylic will ship from the US (and you cant change this one)
