"fine Art" On Rugs

I heard a podcast recently that was an interview with Mark Mothersbaugh of DEVO fame. He does film soundtrack composition too. But what interested me was his talk about having his drawing work printed on rugs. He said that he wanted a way to get his artwork onto rugs instead of paper, so that someone wouldn't have to buy a frame, hang it, etc. He found a place in Kentucky for the printing and has been really happy with the work he's been doing on rugs.

I know of one POD company that announced carrying throw rugs about a year ago, but the details are sketchy and it's difficult to find their pricing into.

Has anyone else looked into angle of selling your art printed onto throw rugs? Preferably POD style like FAA/Pixels, but on a varied of different sized rugs. Printing work on silk scarves would be cool too. Anything like that coming down the pike for FAA/Pixels?

Weird timing, Skip. I got a request, just this weekend, to check into having this piece printed as a silk scarf -

Preliminary research indicates there are several places, stateside, to have it done. Who knew! I'm still investigating. Yes -- I would love to have my work on rugs; that's definitely something to look into. The decorator in my head is already categorizing my art into 'would be a great rug' and 'would not be a great rug' columns. ;-)

I'm a Mark Mothersbaugh fan (Rugrats, Muzik for Insomniaks), so will go in search of that podcast. Thanks!

@Wendy, I looked into it about a year ago and found lots of places doing the digital printing on silk scarves, but all of them were set up for the buyer to upload their art and select size, etc. Nothing geared toward artist POD type sites. Might be something now but haven't found anything yet.

Here's the Mark Mothersbaugh PODCAST

So far, I only know of one POD type site doing the rugs, but their pricing and product details are either well hidden or they aren't pushing it much. Looks a little sketchy with them so I was looking for alternatives.

Thanks for the podcast link, Skip.

I've been thinking I should investigate locally, to see what exciting things can be done with my artwork. I love the idea of presenting art through alternative products, but would like to oversee the process, to a degree. The idea of printing on silk, for instance -- seems that could go wrong in so many ways. I don't want to deal with mail and phone calls, if it comes to that.

On my endless list of Things To Do!

I've had a few of mine on Duvets, not rugs. With the technology, I don't see why it cannot be done.
