I just posted this in the main thread but I'll put it here too.

I think I've come across a minor bug in Version 2...

I have 'Galleries' set as my default tab. When I click onto the Images tab and use the page number navigation it throws me back to the Galleries tab.

The url in the pagination links looks like this:

http://wayneoxfordphotography.com/index.html?page=2

When I modify it to this in the address bar it works and puts me back into the images tab:

http://wayneoxfordphotography.com/index.html?tab=images&page=2

Love the new artist page!

EDIT: Nevermind, looks like it's working now!

If your AW page opens to Images even if you have them set to Galleries in the Behind the scenes under Default, you will need to look at the bottom of the AW page and find the extra bar for 'Administrator Options' and click on 'Set Default Tab'. Then set it to 'Galleries' and it should be set then. That fixed my issues with that.

I can't seem to get my Wordpress and LinkedIn buttons to stick on the About page ... seems anything with an iframe code. I'm not a coder so I'm lost here.

My About page too is full of these - Â - and when I remove them and save, new / different ones come back.

Frank, the weird A is only before your © symbols. Looks like it doesn't like them.

Frank J Casella

Melany -- thanks! Look towards the bottom of my About page in the testimonials .... most are gone now but a few more popped up.

Melany Sarafis

DARN! missed those. I thought I solved the mystery. The others look random, don't they?

Frank J Casella

Yes, Melany, they are. I can deal with the iframe links not posting but these are a real eyesore.

For older versions of IE, the gallery tabs won't open. They work fine in Chrome and Safari, but not at all in IE9. I suspect there are a lot of computers with IE9 or older still used as the browser. I checked on an old computer with IE8, and the site was completely mangled.

Yep, agree the © symbol is always associated with the A^

Some sort of character encoding issue. Are you writing this in another program and copying and pasting it over?

This article suggests Microsoft word as being a common culprit of that character type:

So brought the problem here as requested:

I login to my site normal way, can edit photos and can see behind the scene but when I want to chage something in site appearance, as soon as i press it, appeared the login page and when I was trying to login - error message about wrong email address. Its not allowing me to make any changes.

Mark -- thanks for that tip. However, with this I have it in Text Edit on Mac and convert it to plain text. Then copy it over. So there should be no code in it.

Mark Tisdale

Read the link I shared as it goes in depth on the types of codes that create that symbol even if it's not the right program.

Something you're doing is introducing odd character codes. It could be before the text editor on your mac for that matter. If for instance, you copied those quotes and pasted it from another program to the text editor.

If it were me, I would start fresh. As long as you keep editing the same piece of text, you're going to keep dragging the same problem codes along with you.

Frank J Casella

Good to know, Mark, thank you. I created that in Text Edit and just keep copy and paste from it. So, I'll start a fresh doc and see what happens.

Hope this conversation helps others as well.

I worked in data processing for a decade. I have suffered through enough poorly encoded files that "looked" okay when you printed them. So, unfortunately suggesting starting over is based on experience of trying to fix the un-fixable and creating more problems for myself in the end. ;-)

Good luck!

I have basically the same problem as Jenny - totally cleared the cache and history and it still won't recognize my email address - can't do anything with AW

Under Artwork Pages,Social Buttons, Display Social Buttons: There is a yes or no option, but when I choose no and Save Changes, they are deactivated but still displayed.

Can they be removed totally if we choose "no" for any of them?

The space allowed for the Logo (upper left corner of page), is too short so my name is truncated. I saw this happening on quite a few artist websites so it isn't just me. My work around -- I uploaded a logo to replace the plain text logo.

@Frank - watch out for "smart quotes" and the em-dash or n-dash. Those characters often are not rendered properly in some browsers. The smart quotes are the curvy quotes that are different at the front of a quote from the back. Also a "curvy" apostrophe can be an issue. The em and n-dashes are longer than normal dash characters used in some typesetting applications.

Thanks, Bill, so if I understand you right ... and what you say is happening .... that I should avoid quote marks and dashes and instead use italic text for quotes and forget using dashes?? We use italic all the time here in the forum. Something is different here with the new AW because when I pasted these quotes in my bio on FAA it worked fine. No big deal, we just need to learn how it works now.

I also have had from the start, error saying wrong email so I have been shut down.
Cleared my cache and did not help.

Patricia Strand

Could someone please tell me how to "clear a cache" in Windows 8.1 using Chrome? When I go to the Internet Options tab, it doesn't give me an option to clear the cache. Thank you!!

EDIT: Wasn't the cache! I didn't realize "clearing the cache" is an umbrella term for all the deleting of temp files, etc., that I always do anyway. I was trying to edit the bio instead of editing "Sidebar Text." This is taking quite a lot of fooling around, but slowly getting there with fits and starts.

Subdomain...

Abbie, do you know if Sean is working on his end, so we can use the AW site as a subdomain. If this is not something Sean needs to work on, then can someone tell me how I can set it up. Currently, my subdomain for my artistwebsite goes to FAA main page, it does not go to my artistwebsite. I have everything correct on godaddy.

Hello.

I am still having a problem trying to edit on my AW site my Sidebar text and my "About" test. I seem not to be able to get rid of the "Â" next to my © copyright symbol. I've seen some members had the same problem a few weeks back. I've tried making the © from the keyboard (©), I've cleared my cache, but I cannot seem to get it right. I am probably missing something. Would really appreciate your help/suggestions. Many thanks in advance.

Hi Abbie,

I don't know if this is a one time thing yet or not, but I just copied my keywords and caption from Lightroom into a newly updated photo. Every apostrophe ended up looking like a diamond with a question mark inside. I changed them all in the Edit Image, and they're fine now.

I'll let you know if it happens again.

Daniel

P.S. It did not happen a second time, so you can probably ignore this.

I am setting up a Google + Business Page and for some reason my google share button on my new Artist website Version 2 says it won't allow me to post from there. I can post from FAA thou.
I even noticed on my artist website that I do not have the share buttons under marketing? The share buttons on FAA are enabled and I can post from there, but want the links to go to my artist website.

I have created a new gallery "Miami Beach" and have added photos to this gallery, They are clearly visible on the regular site but not on the AW, (it has been over the 24 hour limit and they still don't appear) If its a cache issue please advise me how to clear a cache on iMac, I knew how to on Windows!

Abbie, on my AW, I cannot click on the Avatars or names of those who leave messages. It does nothing!
Works on FAA.

Jessica Jenney

Kaye, The idea of not being able to click on others who comment is so that the potential buyer can't leave your site to look at other peoples galleries and images. That's a very good thing! You can even disable comments on the AW site. If you want to reply to comments you can only do that on FAA

Kaye Menner

Thank you so much Jessica for replying. I should have known this, but normally do not look at comments on AW !!

Many thanks :)

I've tried to change the default tab to Galleries several times but the Images page shows up instead. I logged out of this site and logged into the AW site first. Also, the dropdown shows that Galleries is specified already. I hit Submit and get Images page instead.

Jessica Jenney

Don't do it on FAA! Go to your AW site, go to homepage, then tab menu, default tab: galleries

Mark Tisdale

Kathleen - are you using behind the scenes or Edit--Website Appearance? The option is still behind the scenes on the AW but the option no longer applies to the AW - the behind the scenes selection is only for FAA/Pixels.

Kathleen Bishop

I tried to change it on the AW site Behind the Scene/Default tab. Are you saying I need to do it under Website Appearance?

OK, I just tried it with both under Website Appearance and under Behind the Scenes. Neither way worked. And I did log out of the main FAA site before logging into my AW site. Also, the dropdown under both already specified Galleries as the default tab. Something is haywire besides me.

Mark Tisdale

Kathleen - another member asked the same question earlier today so I'm copying and pasting my answer from there. It worked for him:

When you're logged into your AW, go to the edit item in the menu at top, choose Website Appearance--then-->Homepage--then--->Tab Menu

On that tab, you'll see the option to select whether you want galleries, images, or your about tab as the default for visitors.

If that doesn't work for you, I have no explanation.Hopefully then Abbie will pop in and can see if there's some issue specifically with your account, etc. :-)

Jessica Jenney

You don't do it behind the scenes!

Kathleen Bishop

Mark, that worked! Thanks!

Not sure why they think it's a good thing to make it so convoluted. If you aren't able to change it the usual way they should remove the option from Behind the Scenes.

Jessica Jenney

That's because the AW sites are customizable and the FAA site is not.

Mark Tisdale

Glad that helped, Kathleen!

There are a few behind the scenes options like that that should be hidden on the AW (because they only apply when you are on FAA). Maybe somewhere down the line it will be made clearer. Even just a note behind the scenes that says these options only apply to the mothership would be helpful. Until then, it's one of those questions that gets asked often, so clearly it's not clear. ;-)

Mark
tisdaleart.com

Jessica Jenney

Yes Mark, but when you choose: edit website appearance it doesn't take you behind the scenes.

Mark Tisdale

Jessica - I agree, every item that matters is now in the edit menu on the AW, but when you are logged in those options are still behind the scenes. It's clearly confusing people to have those options still appear behind the scenes on the AW when they change nothing on the AW. I'm sure it would be possible to code to hide those options when you are logged in on the AW, but it may not be anyone's priority to do so.

PS. Actually, just now taking a look behind the scenes on the AW for the first time in awhile and some of them have been removed. Previously, the option to edit the bio. info and headshot was still visible behind the scenes on the AW, but it's no longer visible, so someone has been coding to remove these. It would be nice if the option on the default tab for galleries/images could also be hidden from view.

It seems to me the login problem (won't recognize email address) happens when I have an FAA window open and my AW open and I am signed into both, but who am I and what do I know?

Is there any way we can get the option to not write anything in the header title? As it is now you must put something there. Or is there a html code we can put in there that will produce nothing in the header title? Please?

When you magnify or de-magnify your page, also, things go all over the place, the search box, the guarantee, I mean just all over the place. Is that normal?

edit - in the case of the login problem, if you just go back to your FAA gallery homepage, and click on your artist's website link, you can get in if you are already logged in. .
