Post Your New Aw Sites Here, For All To See!

Not sure what the visual changes are and need to see examples of AW sites and how they can be created. I'm not one to design and create a web site,as many here aren't either, so if this is all about knowing how to create a new web site, then this has no value to me. Having just larger images doesn't seem to be the "thing" that I and others were waiting for.

So, all those that "know" how to do this, please share your new sites here and then be ready for questions! Mostly "Hoe did you do this?"!!!

Rich

Not done with it yet, but here it is so far. http://loree-johnson.artistwebsites.com/

I'm liking the new look of my A/W ~ USPictures.com.

There are a few real advantages to the new design - other than the modern display with larger images (which is an advantage unto itself).

Same as Loree but so far at peace with it: http://frank-j-casella.artistwebsites.com/index.html

Mine is still a wip, with needed tweaking, but here it is so far:

Same as Frank and Loree... mine is a work in progress.

I'm going to kick start a rebranding of my site with this though. Can't wait.

Here is mine so far. I like it but am having trouble finding a colour for the font at the sidebar of the home screen. Not sure about the white I have now but that's enough tweaking for today! :-)

Far from done, but here I am for the moment.Need to find time to re-write the sidebar and about pages since they aren't tied to FAA anymore and I need to figure out what I want to use as a domain for the site.

http://mark-tisdale.artistwebsites.com/

That's lovely, Marilyn....beautiful colors, prefer no black....
Thanks all for sharing wip's.

Wish I could get an all-White background....

Ahem! So, why is my link not live,??

Still tweaking, but I've already made a lot of changes -

http://wendy-stchristopher.artistwebsites.com/

Viv, why can't you get an all-white background? Off to peek at your site . . .

EDIT TO ADD -- Viv, I'm seeing an all-white background on your site, except for the header and footer areas. What do you see?

Pretty happy so far. Still a couple of things I need to figure out.

Thanks Wendy, cheers/hugs. I see the left avatar part, white bkgd, then, all the artwork on a grey as before....

It says.."this is Custom Message 2"

David, how were you able to move that search box?

David Bridburg

Mary Jo,

My search box came up just before my shopping cart. I did not move it that way.

I see your search box comes up in the middle of your header. You might have
accidentally done something. I dont know.

I added PADDING to my header on top and took it out below to move the type under the Mona Lisa's
eyes.

For others sometimes you need to copy the link while logged out? Or something like that. While editing
or logged into the other profile page your stuff might not work.

Mary Jo,

I went back to check. My search box is under Header tab 3. Search Box.

Did you take it out and then put it back? Because that might have wreaked havoc with it.

It shifts if you take it out. Or if you take out 2. custom statement on returns.

I just added a wood texture to my background and header. I'm not sure I want to keep it. Feedback is welcome.

Where did my banner go? I had a custom-designed banner, and now it's gone. It says you can see what "Custom No. 2" looks like, which I did, then change it back. But there's no where to change it back! Anybody?

EDIT: Never mind, I got it back!

David Bridburg

Patricia,

I think when it is custom made you need to reload it from your computer each time.

Dave

Patricia Strand

But ... but ... it said I can go back! Okay, I'll stop whining and figure it out. It didn't sign up for the beta testing, so I was a little shocked that I lost my banner. I'll have to go find it again, wherever it is. Warning: don't change yours if you aren't ready. Hope I'm wrong... sigh.

EDIT: Disregard! All is well :)

Yours looks great, David. I like it a lot. But I'm not ready to change yet, and I didn't want to be a tester. I had spent a lot of time designing my banner, and now because I just clicked on "Custom 2" to see what it looked like (with the promise I could go back to my original) -- it's gone! Not to mention (and this has nothing to do with FAA), despite all my best efforts to circumvent it, my computer insisted on updating to Windows 8.1 (horrors!) all by itself, even after I told it NOT to ... so, it's been a frustrating day already. Looks like I'll be up late, lol.

Fun.

When you get Windows 8 keep hitting the desktop. It will revert to the old look.
Then the software learns you prefer the old look and stays with your choice.

The desktop or more specifically windows logo is where the starter button used to be. Just always
hit it to what you want. Within a few times the computer wont offer you the new look.
The new look is for touch screens.

I upgraded today so have a lovely new website:

Jeremy has two separate images. I just looked on an iPad and they don't line up. Looks good on a large screen but not on a small screen.

Nothing on this site should saying anything about taking your arwork off other sites. I'm not exactly sure what you mean here. Sent you a private message.

Roy,
Bill is correct, it's the same image uploaded once as the header image and again as the background image. They don't line up, although they look close on the right size screen - the difference varies in different displays but is way off on the iPad.

I think this approach makes the home page too busy looking, but, as soon as I find some time, I will try and lighten them, and crop the header image. Overall I like the effect.

Fixed the lineup of background images. My mistake, the header and background images were from different resolution files, so different widths. In fact I would expect both images to line up on the left, so the lack of sync had to be something else.

If anyone is interested, here's how I did it:
- size a picture to a long side of 2000 px. Most 24" and bigger screens are 1920 px across by default, but can be bigger. This is a useful size.
- save the image with around 80% jpeg compression, otherwise it may too big and load too slowly - I can't see if FAA are changing image size at all.
- upload the image as the header image and again as the background image
- set the Header position as left, top, Repeat X & Y, and the same on the background.

It may be better to use a portrait image to stop the tiling towards the bottom of the page.
I also had to change the colour of the sidebar text and links, due to the dark blue of the background image.

It may be worth creating a header image by cropping the top few hundred pixels off the big image, simply to reduce load size (not sure if it is necessary - it would be on a normal web page development)

Have fun & drop me a message if you try it and get stuck!

I started a new thread called New Artist Website - How To? because I didn't want to hijack Rich's post to show off your new sites. However, it seems people are working well together here on how to use the new functionality.

Should I add my posts to this thread, or keep the other one going?

http://artistwebsites.com/showmessages.php?messageid=2241812

I'm good either way, unless you feel we don't need the info until asked.

Hi Miriam,

Which photo are you searching for? I searched for nypd, using the keyword search at the top of your site. It found several photos.

Many years ago, when I had paid for CS4 and Illustrator, I designed my business cards. I created a background that I still use today everywhere I am able.

Rich said I'm a "tinkerer". He's correct. I've been messing around with my site all morning. I've added my business background, changed the colors etc.

The current results can be found at http://www.onyonet.com
