Even
After
All this time
The Sun never says to the Earth,

"You owe me."

Look
What happens
With a love like that,
It lights the whole sky.”

I stood alone beneath
the stars and shouted
to the heavens at the
top of my lungs
and what was so
beautiful
was the way the
stars shined
when the sky
swallowed
your name.”

“The sky grew darker, painted blue on blue, one stroke at a time, into deeper and deeper shades of night.”
¯ Haruki Murakami, Dance Dance Dance

If I were rain,
That joins sky and earth that otherwise never touch,
Could I join two hearts as well?”

In the sky there are always answers and explanations for everything:
every pain,
every suffering,
joy
and confusion.”

¯ Ishmael Beah, A Long Way Gone: Memoirs of a Boy Soldier

This is a place where grandmothers hold babies on their laps under the stars
and whisper in their ears
that the lights in the sky
are holes
in the floor of heaven.”

I let my head fall back, and I gazed into the Eternal Blue Sky.
It was morning. Some of the sky was yellow,
some the softest blue.
One small cloud scuttled along.
Strange how everything below can be such death and chaos and pain while above the sky is peace,
sweet blue gentleness.
I heard a shaman say once,

the Ancestors want our souls to be like the blue sky.”

¯ Shannon Hale, Book of a Thousand Days

And like a colorful bloom of temporary lights in the sky,
you will shine.”

“Rest is not idleness,
and to lie sometimes on the grass under trees on a summer's day,
listening to the murmur of the water,
or watching the clouds float across the sky,
is by no means a waste of time.”
¯ John Lubbock, The Use Of Life

“I was falling.
Falling through time and space
and stars and sky
and everything in between.
I feel for days and weeks
and what felt like lifetime across lifetimes.
I fell until I forgot I was falling.”

The road to Manderley lay ahead.
There was no moon.
The sky above our heads was inky black
. But the sky on the horizon was not dark at all.
It was shot with crimson, like a splash of blood.
And the ashes blew towards us
with the salt wind from the sea.”

“I know that I am mortal by nature,
and ephemeral;
but when I trace at my pleasure the windings to and fro of the heavenly bodies
I no longer touch the earth with my feet:
I stand in the presence of Zeus himself
and take my fill of ambrosia”
¯ Ptolemy, Ptolemy's Almagest

Sunrise paints the sky with pinks
and the sunset with peaches.
Cool to warm.
So is the progression from childhood to old age.”

“…I keep looking for one more teacher,
only to find that fish learn from the water
and birds learn from the sky.”

He's seeing the actual Milky Way streaked across the sky. The whole of his entire galaxy, right there in front of him. Billions and billions of stars. Billions and billions of worlds. All of them, all of those seemingly endless possibilities, not fictional, but real, out there, existing, right now. There is so much more out there than just the world he knows, so much more than his tiny Washington town, so much more than even London. Or England. Or hell, for that matter.

So much more that he'll never see. So much more that he'll never get to. So much that he can only glimpse enough of to know that it's forever beyond his reach.”
¯ Patrick Ness, More Than This

“Art is what gets us beyond what is real.
It makes reality more real.
It also shortens the distance we gotta travel to see how connected we are. ”
“I think humans are only capable of small moments of honesty.
Then they get tired and back away.
It's something to foster,
this ability to keep it for longer
. How to keep being honest and aware.”
¯ Laura Pritchett, Sky Bridge: A Novel

“How clear, how lovely bright,
How beautiful to sight
Those beams of morning play;
How heaven laughs out with glee
Where, like a bird set free,
Up from the eastern sea
Soars the delightful day.

To-day I shall be strong,
No more shall yield to wrong,
Shall squander life no more;
Days lost, I know not how,
I shall retrieve them now;
Now I shall keep the vow
I never kept before.

Ensanguining the skies
How heavily it dies
Into the west away;
Past touch and sight and sound
Not further to be found,
How hopeless under ground
Falls the remorseful day.”
¯ A.E. Housman, A Shropshire Lad

I believed I could identify the scent of the sky as I stood there,
a blue menthol fragrance
similar to the scent of seawater that sprayed into my face when I first dove into the ocean.
That initial scent was much more subtle than the ocean's heavy, fishy aroma;
it was a whiff of salt and mint,
just as I approached the water on a dive,
that warned me that a more powerful scent would soon enter my nose.
It was the scent I dreamed in.
And it was the scent of that spring sky as I stood in my yard.”
¯ Anne Spollen, The Shape of Water

“And I bet it's harder than people think, isn't it?
Everything looks so simple from a distance.
Then, the more you look, the more you see.
And that's when you have to rise to the challenge.”
¯ Laura Pritchett, Sky Bridge: A Novel

“It stood calm against the suburban storm raging around it.
The thunder screamed across the sky;
it slapped the clouds into a heated turmoil
that flew towards the south.”

¡°There is one spectacle grander than the sea,
that is the sky;
there is one spectacle grander than the sky,
that is the interior of the soul.¡±
¨D Victor Hugo, Les Mis¨¦rables

“So fine was the morning except for a streak of wind here and there that the sea and sky looked all one fabric,
as if sails were stuck high up in the sky,
or the clouds had dropped down into the sea.”
¯ Virginia Woolf, To the Lighthouse

“Who says you cannot hold the moon in your hand?

Tonight when the stars come out and the moon rises in the velvet sky,
look outside your window,
then raise your hand and position your fingers around the disk of light.

There you go . . . That was easy!”
