Hurricane Ana has arrived in Makawao . . right now we have heavy rain but no wind . the air is still with little or no breeze so the rain is falling straight down and not lateral which is good . . the air is dense and thick and the atmosphere is heavy . although it is 1100HST it is relatively dark with heavy cloud cover . . "The Central Pacific Hurricane Center continues to monitor Hurricane Ana as it continues to move south of the Hawaiian Islands this weekend. Maximum sustained winds are near 80 miles per hour, with higher gusts. Little change is strength is expected today, followed by gradual weakening on Sunday. Hello Sharon, I am in Kahana--just light drizzle but dark and the air is also very heavy. Not much has happened, fortunately! Kirsten

I'm in my studio in Lahaina right now. It's been raining all day, very unusual for Lahaina. No wind and it's pretty dark outside. I've been enjoying the sound of the rain while I've been painting.
