What do you think about the prints on metal vs all the other formats? Do you like them? Do they sell for you? I've seen a couple and think they are quite stunning for the right image. They seem to reflect light well..good in low light situations. Just wondering what the FAA community and buyers think. If you have an image that you sold as a metal print, or think would make a great metal print, post it if you like.

Smaller than I was hoping. I was really counting on warehouse size place to crawl around. A little disappointing, but at least I got some good photos out of it.

Joseph I have some that eventually I want to get printed on metal.
Heather yes it is rather small store and for the most part is for the fans of their show.

I recommend the print type based on the viewing environment. Metal, and acrylic, are both stunning, and high gloss. They do well in darker environments and anyplace without alot of glare. They do poorly where they are picking up glare, (like from alot of windows in a room), as you can't see the image.
Really, if printed well, an image should look equally stunning in many mediums.
I do love how gloss shows b&w though.

Jeff I know... I'm not a huge fan of the show dramatics, but happened to be in Nashville photographing a friend's son who's a country singer (aren't they all?) and she insisted on taking me over there. Glad I did though - I have that guitar shot printed on a big 36" canvas and its the biggest draw for me at the fairs! Now I want it on metal...

I really love the metal prints, especially something with vibrant colors. I haven't sold many, but these two are really bringing a lot of people into the booth at the few shows that I'm doing. I have the brown pelican in a 21X30, and the detail is incredible.
Christine Falls is 24X36 and it draws people in from a pretty good distance.
Hopefully I'll sell both this weekend...

I have this one printed on metal - I took it to a regional show and it was a show stopper. I'm not sure that I would sell it.
The comment on the glare from metal or acrylic prints is, in my opinion, bogus - printed on paper - or any medium that is then framed and put under glass, unless "museum glass" is used is going to have as much or more glare and reflection.

I was searching for an order fulfillment site for metal prints when I discovered FAA in 2012. Actually when I joined they did not offer them yet. I ended up ordering one from somewhere else. It was printed a bit too light and the highlights were blown out a bit but I still display it at home. It was a print of this. I was looking to do a show of all my oil rig images as metal prints. I never actually did that as I discovered selling through POD to be far more lucrative with very little investment.
Here's the one I ordered for myself from elsewhere before FAA had them.
I only ever sold this one as a metal print.
I have never seen the acrylic prints but I had a collector order 9. Mostly ships and a few oil rigs.
Heather and Jeffery, I am a big fan of resonators. I don't play them but I accompany them often . I will have to get that one next time I am in Nashville.;-)

About 25% of my sales are on metal prints this year VS 5% last year... so at least for me it's an upward trend.

I love metal prints and they seem to be the topic of lots of conversations at shows, but folks have not bought them from me yet. I market them. Just yesterday I had a call from a gallery owner where one of my metal prints is hanging. A woman really wanted it, but could not afford it even after we went down on the price for her. She asked if we could do a "traditional" 8X10 instead, framed print with a matte, and was surprised when we told her that price is about the same for that compared to the 14X9 metal print she was looking at. There's still some hope by the gallery owner that she will buy the metal print.

Has anyone done any art fairs using metal prints? I'm lugging around framed photography at art fairs and they are very heavy, the glass gets scratched, if it rains they get moisture. Does anyone know how metal prints hold up with constant packing, moving, hanging, moisture? Do they scratch easily? Am thinking of switching to metal. Are they heavy?

Jane they are a fraction of the weight of a framed print. They are also pretty tough but you would want to keep a separator of some kind between them for traveling/storage.

I've sold multiple prints on metal and I've also purchased multiple images on metal.
I've been very pleased with the images I ordered and one of the customers that bought one said they were very happy with it.
I've sold these on metal: (I've actually sold a few copies of the tiger image so far.)
I've purchased these and think they look great on metal:
I also ordered this one and it took first place in an art show at an art museum in Colorado:

Great info and examples guys! Keep it coming. I've sold a few metal prints. I've seen this one in metal and a few other metal prints at shows and in offices and I think they are great. So clear. I think the public will like them as they see them more. I like the lightness and durability as well as great the images look.

Jane, I do canvas at shows since that's what people seem to want round here... I hope to get a couple metal prints done though for next year to see if I can move those. I started with framed stuff at shows, but for a dozen reasons - cost/damage/moisture/no one wanted them because the frame didn't match their house/etc... I switched to canvas and just matted prints.

Yes Heather I can see how those would be great on metal. Do you think it would be pretty easy to add metal prints to your shows? It terms of transporting...displaying etc. Seems like it would.

It'd be easy, just don't have the funds right now to do it, so need to wait for next year, look into wholesalers... I have a wholesale canvas printer, that was easier.
If my dang van didn't just bust the transmission this week I'd probably have gotten a couple.

Customer here, not a seller. I recently opted for a metal print and was really disappointed in the colors. It's too difficult to ship back for a refund. I feel like I wasted a lot of money. So, I do not recommend selling metal unless you can inspect them yourselves before paying.

Well I order 2 different prints on metal for Christmas gifts and I was not disappointed.
