Vonnie Murfin

I Need Your Help.

Recently, I sold one of my photographs at Honeywell Center. This is part of the email they sent me. "61 artists submitted 173 photographs. The judges selected 77 pieces for the show." I need your help with my Biography. I want to add this to my description. Thank you for any help. :)

How about this: She has also been accepted for the 2014 Photography Show, held at the Honeywell Center. She sold one of her autographed photographs at the event, which helped to benefit the Art Gallery.

BIOGRAPHY

Vonnie Murfin is a self-taught photographer whose background includes landscape, wildlife, sports, concerts and special events.

She has won awards in the computer - enhanced digital and black & white categories at a local county fair and her work have been featured in the Digital Photographer magazine.

Vonnie's photographs were selected as the 7-day forecast background for Indiana’s Newscenter (21Alive). Her images were also used for YouNews TV's 'How To' guide.

Vonnie was one of the few artists accepted for the Art4Sale event, held at the Fort Wayne Museum of Art. Two of her photographs were sold at the event, which helped to benefit the Art Gallery.

The Fort Wayne News~Sentinel newspaper has used Vonnie's photographs to publicize Flag Day, School News and to promote a local photo-sharing system for the newspapers.

Vonnie exhibits her photographs through Internet storefronts, where her work can be purchased as fine art prints, greeting cards, posters, and other merchandise.

i think it should be narrowed down to what you do in general, all these names are confusing and many won't know what they are, i know i don't. forecast backgrounds and such may not be as impressive to others. you can mention you won awards, but i would leave out the locations, let people wonder. a country fair to be honest doesn't sound impressive. i've seen those shows.

it would be nice if you had a vanity url for the fine art site or at least post the artist site if you have one. it looks more professional, keeps people from wandering. try not to say vonnie so much.

Hi Vonnie, I have to agree with Mike. More than two sentences you lose people. The work has to speak for itself and something short and sweet that will be remembered. I was asked for something a while ago here is what I decided upon:
Val Arie, award winning digital artist, specializing in minimalist fantasy landscapes can be reached at

The bare minimum. I decided on that when I realized that I never read all that artist stuff at shows and galleries.

it really depends what your trying to get across.

that you create a specific genre that can be recognized as X

or that you win awards at small shows no one ever heard of before. i know it sounds condescending but it is what it is. it's better to tell people about how you create photos. like if you were chatting on the bus briefly, how would you explain your images to people?

i'd probably describe it the way i have it listed now. i don't mention awards, mostly because i don't enter contests. i don't see the point. then let the images speak for themselves.

Definitely leave out "self-taught".

One website, one email and possibly one telephone number if local

Or, one qr code for the website page that has your about details I have a maker on my site http://1stangel.co.uk/qr-codes/

Put all your contact details on that page so they can scan the qr code, bookmark your page and go back at any time. Lots of people scan for the fun of it and then, later, will find your about page and remember you.

Keep it to one short paragraph not lots of tiny ones.

Tell them your name, speciality, where you are from and a qr code, or/and your URL, email

Done. They will remember you. I have already forgotten what you put and it's only an hour since I tried to read it..... Too much info not needed

Sorry

Gosh . . . I'd rather put a fork in my eye than publish a two-sentence bio! :-) However, I agree -- moderation in all things.

(Yes, I read the bio on every artist's page I visit.)

Lol..I thought this was to go with the image, like an exhibition.... Sorry. Note to self, stop forum hopping when at lunch... Ignore me totally

I agree, Vonnie, tighten it up to 2 sentences, leave out specifics and forget the self taught label.
Wendy, I'm clearing out all of the forks at your place. I'll be there soon.

in any case, this bio is far too long for any place you put on, this one included.

That's okay, Marlene -- I've already turned most of them into wind chimes, anyway. But, if you're headed this way, please bring take-out; my cupboards are woefully bare!
